Thankyou for that. Santa n der (I assume der is one of his elves) have
taken over my current account. Now, every time I write a cheque I will have
a vision of Webber doing a Mr Whippy. ****.

As long as they keep my existing package the same i.e. a current account
without a monthly fee that includes free travel insurance and free cash
withdrawals at the village Post Office 150m from my house then I will be
happy. The village shop has an ATM but it levies a £1.50 fee for cash
    withdrawals.

Uh? Cash withdrawals are free in Spain in your own bank ATM's. At other
banks' ATM's, it is a proportional fee, say 1.40 for a 100 withdrawal.

Problems with Santander (in Spain) start at the moment when your account is
not the one where you get your salary and bills. Then there are fees for
    everything.

They're free at all banks here, but there's a bunch of cash machines
ran by Link in places like Post Offices & small shops that charge a fee
    regardless.
