It was still evidence - maybe not good or hard evidence, mind, I'll
    admit.

*DING* Unless Marina's lying, this is an actual eample of this
    happening.

And here lies the moral. Most of these things are at the level of 'a man
in the pub said his cousin had heard on the radio that...'.
Unattribitable stories, some levels removed from the alleged events.

When we look for evidence, the best we can find is one teacher laying
down a fuckwitted rule to one teaching assistant.

If there were really a cabal of humourless bureaucrats taking over the
country in the name of Political Correctness, one would think there'd be
a bit more evidence for it than that.

    But that wouldn't sell newspapers.

So, in this instance, we don't know if it was policy or an instruction
    from your teacher.

At the time I asked my mother, who is a senior teacher co-ordinating
30 classroom assistants, and she confirmed to me that no such policy
was in place at national level, nor in her region.

They don't have a policy document stating all the policies that they
    don't have.

I do. I can produce the company equality policies (controlled
distribution documents) which confirm that no such renaming policies
    exist.

As humourless beaurecratic companies go the railway is always on a winner
and we've never had (IME since mid 80's) any of the mad PC edicts
described. As Wizard said if "a cabal of humourless bureaucrats" were
taking over then the paper trail would be a little more obvious.

If you want the docs I can get them to you. NPs. Worth bearing in mind
all the TOCs are governed by Group Standards and HR issues are driven by
    "best practice" from ATOC.

As to 'other' companies (ie non rail) I'm quite confident there will be
no specific documentation of any of the instances described.

I'm not arguing that something has happened. I'm arguing that
something hasn't. The onus of proof doesn't rest with me.

The school I was working had a nasty culture. I had been doing the job
as a precursor to taking teacher training. I decided that I did not
want ot work in a schook if they were like that and became a
playworker instead. The pay per hour is good enough and I am now half
way through my NVQ3 and a deputy site leader, so I am not sorry, even
though many schools are no doubt good.
