Given the total lack of anything worth watching on the TV these days I've largely gone over to watvhing DVDs. HMV have had a decent sale of old British films recently so for a fiver each I picked up The Blue Lamp, The Third Man, Brighton Rock, In Which We Serve and Quatermass & the Pit, all of which I've either not seen or not seen for a very long time. Watched Quatermass the other day - very risible. But last night I watched the Blue Lamp - which starts out talking about the crime wave (of the late 40s) involving kids from broken homes, senseless violence (that "proper" criminals would never use, ha ha) and the casual use of guns. Apart from the lack of cars on the streets, the clothes and people finding Two Ton Tessy an entertainer worth watching, it could have been set today in many ways. Quite odd.
