Salutes to Rossi...

Don't kid yourself. It isn't all the pilot. Racing is a team effort. The
best rider in the world is SOL if his machine is not set up properly.
And no one can do it better than Honda. Honda has always won what it goes
after. When their interest wanes, so will their dominance. Rossi is
undoubtedly good, but there's always someone better just waiting their
chance. Maybe Honda has found him.
I don't know why you enjoy seeing Honda slighted, unless it's just good ol'
brand loyalty. Besides, Yamaha fans needn't worry. Yammy's record in
    roadracing may never be equaled.

  2. Rossi's decision to leave was based on seeking a new challenge and not
more money... the RC211V made winning to easy for him...

Money is never a problem for Honda for they have a history of the
    deepest pockets in racing...

Soitenly... but I promise to never pick my nose while being interview on
TV... Colin not only picks but he interrupted Neil Hodgsen's televised
interview on the podium that "Hey dude, you got a booger hanging out of
your nose" Colin was the only booger on the podium...

    And if they keep
The RC211V is the racers racer... they are paying Honda just to campaign
    one during the MotoGp season...

You're giving yourself the middle finger... because as Rossi wins you
loose your day to buy anything other than a stinky I4...

  3. Dave... while at Mugello I got a full dose of the M1's sound... indeed
it does sound wonderful... like a v4... it doesn't rip like a I4 at
all... but sound is not the reason... it's for more push out of the
corners in an effort to match the drive of his old V5... Kawasaki has
also dropped the rip in favor of more push... there comes a day when no
I4 are in the grid of MotoGp...

If the weight penalty is relaxed then maybe you'll see a V6 then again
there's the problem of covering cost of development without the hopes of
    a production version... because a V5 V6 is a dead end engine
architect... like who's going to allow a V5 V6 in their race series???
not WSB... unless they drop the only 4 cylinder rule...

Honda must be feeling pretty stupid to have let
Think about it... in a way Honda is glad the M1 won... for it quills the
arguments that the Honda V5 had an unfair advantage and must carry more
weight to even up the competition...

  4. Yes... Yamaha was looking for more push to replace the old tire spinning

Honda has treated Edwards like shit, sticking him with the bottom of the
barrel equipment all year when he's arguably the best development rider on
the payroll. And in a year when Honda is hurting for a development rider in
Rossi's absense. Did it during his WSB title year as well, canning him after
the Suzuka 8-Hours. In fact, they did it to Carmichael(?) this year after he
won the Supercross(?) title for them. Honda may make good bikes but they
could learn a thing or two about employee relations.

It's not about the shape of the power band, it's about traction at the
tire/track interface. The closely grouped firing order is easier on the tire
because there's more "down time" between firing pulses for the tire to regain
    traction.

  9. Inline 4 first won a Gp championship back in 1939... mercy that's before
WW2... it's about time for something new and improved...

You're right it is the better race bike. Why, they shouldn't even bother
Except for the fact competition is what drives Honda success... They
even bailed out Yamaha once from financial dire straights back in 81...

  11. Colin the wonder rider... he'll be singing a differnt tune next year...
good by podiums and hello kitty litter...

Honda may make good bikes but they
Negative... Doohan got along fine with Honda winning 5 championships in
a row because he knew Honda was the best bike and he acted accordingly...

And Doohan was usually at odds with the Honda engineers and ended up
rejecting a whole lot of the changes that came down the pipeline. IIRC he
raced with very close to the same chassis for most of his time at Honda,
despite Honda trying to introduce a newer one.

Colin may not be the best rider out there, but he's no slouch and probably
rates higher than many on the MotoGP grid. I'll agree that he presents
himself as a big goober most of the time, but that's why his fans like him so
    much.

  14. You need an new hearing aid... one you can hear out of... my friend Dan
owns a Stearman... the one featured in new King Kong movie no less... it
goes blapity blap blap unlike the growl of a V4...
There are plenty of riders who trade their FJR (Fruit Juice
Reconstituted) straight across for your ST1100 V4 because they are tired
there's nobody at home down low in the power band...

  15. Odds hell... Mick had to literally beat the engineers off his bike now
and again but he didn't burn and bridges in the process... he did in
manner with respect to the Japanese... if you'll notice the Japanese and
not just Honda are big on respect... thinking of self and not the group
is very bad manners in the land of sight sound and motorcycles...

Good points all and I agree. I didn't mean to suggest that Doohan was calous
or selfish, just that he didn't always find the "newer/better/faster" parts
to actually be newer, better or faster.

When my brother and I ride side by side on the Buell S3Ts, it sounds
similar to the drone of a twin engine prop plane :) When a whole group of
us ride together, it gets even better :)

The sound of twin engine prop planes, along with the sound of the GSXR600
reving to 14 grand is quite interesting :) It was a good ride last Sunday
for the "Brew City Brag" goup.

I'd agree there. Edwards may even have himself to blame for getting shafted
for not realizing he was shooting himself in the foot. Honda, though, is
equally as responsible. Neither has to necessarily conform to the other's
culture, but it's just as silly to expect an Texas goober to conform to
Japanese business culture as it is to expect the Japanese to put up with his
gooberizing. They should have met in the middle somewhere. This also may
have been part or most of the reason Rossi left. Neither side was willing to
conceed anything to the other culturally speaking.
