I have, I got fucking smashed the last time I went to Beijing (earlier
this year); going through the best part of a bottle of wine with dinner,
a **** load of Vodka and tonics at a bar afterwards and then about six
margarita's (according to a colleague who was with me) in the hotel bar.
My memory blanked out around arriving at the bar. I made a **** load of
drunken phone calls too, can't really remember much about them either.

Had a horrible hangover together with being horribly tired the next day
(going on the piss was done the evening of the day I arrived in
    Beijing). I really couldn't face lunch in a staff canteen the next day;
anything apart from a sweetcorn bread had my stomach contracting in
    anticipation of 'expelling any boarders'.

The worst puke? What's that violent stuff with wormwood in it. That
burns coming up. So does rum and whisky.

Fortunately I'm not drinking to (massive[1]) excess at the moment.

[1] Massive by my standards, modest by some I'm sure.

That would be Absinthe, the one, true, path to oblivion.

As someone who'd been subjected to this crap more often than any sane
human should be, I'd say the 'puke' in your first sentence is redundant.

I've never really got into the drunken phone-call thing.

And I try not to drink too much with work-colleagues these days
    either.

I try not to... but fail on occasion.
Me too, but I also fail at this. I start off with the best of
intentions but then... when my boss asks me to choose the wine and I
tend to monopolise the bottle (and the conversation) suggesting others
shouldn't drink because they're driving or because of "their little
problem with alcohol"... suddenly the full bottle of motepulciano,
borollo or whatever (he's italian so I order italian wines...) suddenly
starts to get lighter and lighter.

*sigh* problem is I do like to drink with a meal. Sometimes, granted,
    I'll skip the food.

I don't deny it. I'm also flattered he generally leaves ordering wine to
me and generally approves of my choice from the menu though.

Just a guess. Mind you, he's not denied or confirmed it so far.

I wouldn't ask anyone to choose the wine if they spelled Barolo
and Montepulciano like that. Mind you, I wouldn't ask anyone anyway
    since I gave it up.

That's funny on so many levels.

    But, no, I'm not.

It was, but I don't deny it. It would have been better if he'd spelt it
    kiss-arse though.

Not absolutely convinced, I think he's testing my palate. But there's a
fair chance you're right. However he's taking a risk because I
certainly wouldn't let my staff choose the wine I was going to drink.

Oh, I don't think so. All of my directs are relatively content. Well
apart from the one who's lost the radiator... but he'll be driving again
shortly anyway. Surprisingly I'm not a 'bad' boss.

Is this some kind of new management-speak of which I'm not aware?

  20. A mixture of blue Bols and Eau-de-Vie (French equivalent of Grappa)
wasn't too pleasant either. And was bright green.
