My old Suzi has been bean counted and pronounced uneconomical to repair,
and I've just discovered my wrist has to stay in plaster for two more
weeks, not the one more I thought it was.

Only good point was that a hasty phone call to the bean counter in
charge has resulted in an extra £200 on the value of the bike, thanks to
the evidence of an ad for a bike the same year and mileage as mine in MCN.

So apart from todays ovloV estate and Bear's SO Saab, anyone else on
here want to spam me with a SOC I might want a laugh at whilst perusing
    ebays local bangers?

No offence intended, my dear fellow.

I thought if you didn't notice and enough other people did I could claim
it as a SOC by popular opinion and get it for a song. I obviously need a
better plan. Maybe I'll write to that ex-banker chappie and ask for a
loan - he's been keen enough in the past, apparently.

    <starts ripping buttons off clothing>
Luckily my staying-in jacket has sleeves that tie at the back.

    Well.....
towards the end of april i'll be getting rod of my soc,
L reg Nissan Micra, 3 door, first of the bubble shape ones, poverty spec
with the 1 litre engine... but cheap as feck to run, red it is, just turned
over 100k miles, got a fresh mot last week where it needed a new windscreen
(fuckin navigationaly challenged pigeons) and a cv joint boot.

sills have been patched, and the front cross member repaired... but they all
    go there apparantly.

but i imagine your after something a bit bigger/better, and want it now....
but if anyone wants a small cheap to run car in 2 months time, i have one to
    flog,

oh, i live in nottingham, but would deliver it and catch the train home for
    the right price.

I am hoping for something bigger but have been keeping my eye on the
prices of local Micra sized stuff as well.

My aim is that as soon as my cast is off I'll able to drive, thus
avoiding my current hobby of standing around at Southampton Central for
an hour a day waiting for connecting trains. Should be well before the
    end of April though.

Does having the cast *actually* stop you driving or is that just the
    advice you've been given?

The doc told me that because it counts as a disability, however
temporary, I shouldn't drive although if I informed DVLA I'd be OK.
I was reluctant to inform DVLA of anything which could take years to get
taken back off my licence so I didn't.

Now the swelling and pain have gone and I can type again <collective
Hooray!> I'm physically capable of driving but haven't been doing so
purely on the basis of what the doc said.

Mine will be used as a dog taxi too, but a 2.5V6 reminds me of the other
factor - I have no car no-claims bonus.

The buggers want to know about my bike claims but not my bike no-claims
    bonus.

c1975, I had to take a hacksaw to the plaster cast on my right arm so I
    could grip a throttle.
Opening the throttle was difficult with a locked wrist as the whole
    forearm had to move.
The cast on the left arm was OK. Probably illegal but at least I was mobile.

Ta, I'll give them a call. Probably find their rates are so high I'm no
    beter off.

I didn't actually ask mine, at the time I was concentrating on my name,
rank and serial number whilst he checked that wiggling my thumb hurt enough.
Driving or riding was not actually at the front of my mind until the
painkillers kicked in afterwards and by then he had said it in front of
    SWMBO.

Not neccessarily: I insured my V6 Vectra for ~300 quid on that basis.
The quote using my car NCD was ~270, so I reckon the scheme works.

    Is she a cop?

If the answer to the above question is no then I really don't see what
    the problem is.

Well, if you really wanted a micra, i could sell it sooner, i've got me bike
after all, about time i became a real bkker and use the thing for daily
transport rather than a sunny day toy,

end of april is when me new car arrives,
i'd have no probs delivering it to the deep south as i presume that's where
    you are,

i'm hoping for a few hundered for it, 11 months 1 weeks mot left, tax till
end of may i believe, it's been a good car, mum bought it new and did 45k
miles in 11 years, i took it to 100k miles,

i too have used it as a dog taxi, so the back seat is covered in mutt hairs,
but i'd clean it before selling, and am going to have the dog clipped before
she goes in my new car, and if she still sheds the ammount of hair she has
done lately, i'll tie her to the fekin roof.

like i said, had some welding to the sills, but passed the mot without any
mention of them since it was patched, had all it's solid brake pipes
replaced over the years, as thats a common micra failing,

Only problem it's ever had is every few months it'll throw a wobbley on a
cold start and flood the engine and stall imediately after firing up,
accelerator to the floor and wind her over and she coughs back into life and
is fine for another few months, never had any fault codes logged, and the
cats have never suffered, all the emmisions test slips show similar levels
    throughout it's life.

Oh yeah, had a new battery last year, feckin expensive they are too cos of
the small size and odd shape, but the origional lasted 14 years so can't
complain really, all good tyres, kwik fit own brand, but you dont really
need more for this kind of car,

Anyway, if you or anyones interested let me know,
i have to use the car this week cos i'm collecting a computer die cutter
thingy (one of those things you cut vinyl letters and graphix with, can also
do engraving when i can afford the parts, and i dont fancy strapping
something that's costimg me more than i get a month to the back of the bike)

but after that the car is available.

The only car we have is her beetle, so that combined with having heard
the doc say it means no driving it, no matter how much I say I love the
massive flower in the little vase.

Rang them - they only do it if you have one of their bike policies. The
chap had heard of companies who will take anybodies NCB, and when I
asked the cheeky question "Can you think of one offhand" he went off and
consulted, then came back with Direct Line.

So, a call to Direct Line confirms I can transfer my 8 years NCB to one
of their car policies and playing around with their online quotes
reveals I can now afford to insure something more pokey than a Trabant
    with an exhaust restrictor.

Thanks to Mr Nesbitt for the pointer, and a quick mention to Carole Nash
for non-customer service above and beyond the call of duty.
