Im looking at this scooter/Bike for the missus, but also want it myself.
Like the bowling ball given to Marge with Homer engraved.

Anyone ridden one, there are almost no reviews out there.
    Information appreciated.

I think she will like the black one.

A local scooter dealer selling the 50cc version said it was a piece of junk:
top speed of 44kph, and nearly shook itself to pieces going that fast. I
don't have high hopes for the bigger version.

Haven't had a go yet but was thinking about it for a daily commuter.
I used to have a Postie which this is just a funky, cooler version of, and
    it's cheaper too.
If all you need is a round town banger (ie < 90km/h, < 30 min trips) then it
    certainly looks the goods.

I'm just hanging out for the 500:

  5. You'd think they'd be more robust, considering they'd be used in their local
    market to transport entire families.

Apart from the instability, I suppose the crippled top speed would be
because of emission conformity? I had a 50cc scooter as a teenager (don't
laugh, I had to get to school somehow!), and it comfortably zoomed up to
~65Km/h. And that was with automatic (two-speed) transmission.

I haven't ridden one. I'm avoiding it 'cause I might get too tempted.

OTOH, I had a long conversation with a bloke whose opinions about
motorcycles I trust, and he had test ridden one from East Gosford down
    to the Mt.White cafe.

He thought it was a great fun thing.

He wasn't interested in a commuter bike, although it would do that job
perfectly well, but rather a very light weight, transportable machine.

He did say that it helped a lot, when riding over bumpy stuff, for the
rider to concentrate weight down to the pegs, which seems fairy nuff to
me, given the bike could be less weight than the rider.

Another mate was last heard of planning to buy one.

His justification being that he didn't need his R1 or his wife's FZ-1 to
go from his house to his work.

Apparently, the 50cc auto model is fairly slow. To such an extent that
the dealers (or some of them) offer a big-bore kit to stretch the engine
    to 80cc.

The engine and gearbox look to be knock-offs of the wee Honda family,
but whether the bolt-on goodies available for the Honda's would also
    fit, I dunno.

Given the outrageous prices being asked for ex-postie bikes, I'd expect
quite a few of these machines to be sold.

As for the temptations I'm trying to avoid, one is to get a Madass and
graft in the engine/gearbox from the DX125 yammie, and the other is to
buy half a dozen and offer them for rental to learners.

The MOST seems suddenly too easy with things like the Sachs. ;-)

  7. There's a 'Quick Fang' on Page 50 of the May Two Wheels; Jeremy Bowdler
thinks you'd buy it for its looks over the CT110AG, which is now exactly
    the same price.

I've had a close look at a couple of them, and they look as though
they're the same block as the Honda C*90 engines.
Why go to that much trouble? The Chinese 125cc motors are very cheap,
and getting more reliable all the time. I'd be inclined to buy a 50cc
Madass off a disappointed first owner and slot a Chinese 125cc motor
in. (Except that I've already got a CD90 with a seized motor awaiting
    that treatment).

They look to me as though they'd be very similar to a CT90/110 to
ride, with the addition of a stiffer frame, brakes that brake, an
    suspension that suspenses. ;-)

If you're just after an inner suburban commuter, once you got over the
novelty factor of its radical looks, wouldn't you be better off spending
your money on something that would at least offer your shoes and pants a
bit of protection from the elements?

The OP said he wants it for his missus.. I'm guessing she wants to keep
her shoes and pants dry and clean. YMMV. :)

That's not a bike. It's a couple of tubes welded together with a bracket for
    a Chinese engine.

Recently bought an Ozquad 250 farm-quad for the gardening. 250cc
    liquid-cooled single with full auto.

    I bought a 2-cylinder liquid-cooled Honda "tractor" lawnmower for a
similar purpose. Only cost $200, and I'll be attempting to reassemble
    the motor this weekend.

Have you ever bought a bike (other than The Jackal) that wasn't a kit
    bike?

Hey, all my bikes were going concerns when I bought them!

(What happened to them afterwards the deponent sayeth not)

I might head up that way when the bloated multinational I work for
gives me some daylight hours... (And when I've cleaned it which can't
    happen till this weekend.)
