I've rang a few mechanics nearby through http://fat.ly/lg535 looking for
roadworthy inspections. I was wondering if anyone knew of any mechanics in
melbourne that did cheap (or at least reasonably priced) RWC's as so far
they have all been upwards of $100+ and I have heard of people getting
theirs done for $60 or even $40!
    Any help would be appreciated.

    cheers,

  3. Well Jeff,
It all depends on whether you reckon your life is worth $40 or $100+
What you pay for is what you get
a $40 rush-over job that doesn't check many things or a $100+ job that goes
    right through the whole bike.
There are a lot of people who don't reckon that a roadworthy is necessary
for their bike as they "keep it in pristine condition"
That is, until it breaks down, throws a chain, blows a well worn tyre or
doesn't stop like it should because the discs are fucked.
    The choice is yours.
    Same as the helmet discussion
If you have a $10 head, then buy a $10 helmet

There is a place near Hunts Squash and gym on Johnston St between Nicholson
    and Brunswick Streets. North side.

Most of the shops in the area take the bikes to him and throw on another
$50ish for taking it there for you.

I didn't know that roadworthys were required in Melbourne.
I went through one in Perth last year but that was because the vehicle was
previously licensed in Vic. If I'd owned in for two years in Vic I wouldn't
have needed it. All inspection in WA are done by the Government but are only
required for interstate vehicles and unlicensed vehicles.

From what I've observed in NSW, the annual inspection is not worth the few
dollars you pay for it. It is an outright con to fleece money from the
punters. There are people that think something terrible will happen if all
vehicles aren't inspected every year. Mechanical failures actually are
ascribed to less than 1% of all vehicle accidents and 99% of those would not
    be detected by the "inspection".

So if you can get the certificate for $10, go for it.

George I don't understand why you would want to pay $10 for a helmet. Is
    your head worth that much?

  8. I think we had this discussion a while ago Theo and you won, with the
cheapest head because there wasn't much inside it to protect

Looks like this group is going the way of many others.
The wankers seem to be taking over, the genuine posters can't be
bothered with all the stupid dross thrown in by those who like to be
heard chatting about nonsensical crap and have to have the last word in
    their dumb propositions.
How many of the "regulars" of yesteryear are posting about real biking ??
Who really would consider proximity devices other than a "Sneaker Squid"
? Who with any experience would need someone to check their bike for
    basic safety condition ?

Well, in Melb, you need a raodworthiness certificate to transfer ownership.

I gather that wherever you live, sellers can foist any old piece of shit
    onto punters.

  14. It is very obvious that it was something entirely different to what you were
thinking Nev, as is the case with you and everything that anyone says.
You certainly have a perception and mind of your own.
Thanks Christ for that, at least there is only one of you.

That's the way it works in Perth. You can pay the RAC $150 and they will
tell you that the rear main seal is weeping at the rate of 1 drop per week
and this will cost a minimum of $2500 to put right. You will also need new
shocks for $1000, brake pads for $200, etc, etc. All this for a vehicle you
were negotiating to buy for $4000. You then negotiate the price down to
$2000 based on the report of the vast sum you will need to pay to "make it
road-worthy" and never have any of those things fixed. The only real winner
is the RAC, who are totally convinced they are working for the safety of the
    general public.

    It's an action. As in:

We didn't think we could steal anything from the aquarium without being
seen but we managed to sneaker squid.
