Is there anything that can be done to slow down the death of my downpipes? They look like they'll be blowing any day soon. I suspect the answer is no, but one never knows... -- Paul. CBR1100XX SuperBlackbird BOTAFOT #4 BOTAFOF #30 MRO #24
1) Go back in time and get a fender extender fitted when you first get the bike. 2) Very liberal and regular dosings of Scottoiler FS365 sprayed directly onto the pipes through: a) Both gaps in the fairing, and b) The fucking pointless hole underneath the radiator whose sole purpose seems to be to allow salty water to spray directly onto the downpipes, FFS. Obviously won't reverse the damage, but should go a long way towards slowing it down.
Yeah, the salty water tends to accumulate after they throw tons of the fucking stuff on the roads every time a councillors' martini seems a bit too chilled[1] Well it's not *actually* oil. FS365 is a corrosion inhibitor type thingy. Don't know the science, but it's supposed to neutralise the oxidation process, or at least slow it down. Course, every time it rains, you need to reapply it! For a real quality loverly stink, spray downpipes liberally [1] IIRC, they now mix molasses in with the salt/grit to make it stay on the road for longer. After one winter of this my wifes'[2] car has fucked up, pitted paintwork on the road facing side. Nice. [2] Never could get the hang of apostrophes.
Well, the pipes on the Blackbird are completely sheltered and we don't have salty water here, but I suppose it has spent most of its life in the UK. I'll try the oil thing, although it's going to make a hell of a stink, methinks. Cheers. -- Paul. CBR1100XX SuperBlackbird BOTAFOT #4 BOTAFOF #30 MRO #24
