Can anyone suggest an easy/cheap/effective way of dealing with surface
rust on SOB chrome and wheel spokes?

  2. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Jim Scullion
Brasso, if it's only surface rust.

Gosh, is that still available? I remember using that on the brightwork
of my SS80 back in 1970. Occasionally...

If Solvol isn't doing the job any more you're looking at either
painting the rims silver (ewwww) or getting new ones, methinks.

ewwww indeed! I'll give the Solvol a go, before descending to the
depths of Hammerite on my lovely SOB.

Serves me right for using it during the Winter, I suppose.

Autosol a toothbrush and lots of elbow grease:) Easier if you take the
wheels off, it saves the squatting.

Not just rusty but the book says "a spoke which is missing, cracked,
    excessively loose bent or corroded".

The key word is "excessively". Problem here is the tester is allowed to
    use his own judgement ...

I wire brushed and painted the spokes on Frankfurt MZ. No problem.

  14. Yup, I've done that as well. You can see the point - badly corroded
spokes = wheel collapse. But cleaning them up and proofing thm with
    decent paint works.

Once you've Brassoed or Solvoled them, a coat of car wax will help keep
the corrosion at bay for while. It fills in the pores of the chrome
plating. Do it regular and you can banish the Brasso blues forever.
