Rust-prevention on downpipes

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Patrick Evans, Nov 30, 2004.

  1. So after a rather, er, interesting session on the dyno this
morning to see whether there was a fuelling problem as I thought,
it turns out to be all over the bloody shop. Rich at the bottom,
then lean, then rich, then lean, sorting itself out for a bit and
then going so lean around 9k that I'm surprised I've still got
    valves and pistons.

Which wasn't *quite* what I was hoping for.

So the race system's coming off, the dynojet kit's coming out and
it's all going back to standard. Something I was thinking of doing
anyway (the Micron system should fetch a few shekels on Ebay, if
nothing else) and Mr PDQ was in full agreement.

But before I put the rot-u-like stock exhaust back on, I want to
get it corrosion-proofed in some way. Anyone got any hints as to
    methods, places and prices?

    Ta.

    On downpipes, used engine oil.

Apply liberally, fire up engine to burn it on.

Do that a couple of times, should be fine for yonks.

Give Simian a bell. He's reasonably local to you, and has done tons
    of research on all this.

Why hasn't the **** been posting recently?

I think his posting-powers disappeared when he had all his hair cut
    off.

I feel for him, I really do. I did warn that it'd be the death of him,
    but he wouldn't listen.
