Right my bike has finally turned just over 500 miles and I want to change
the oil and filter, but which oil?
I presume, as this isn't a high performance sportsbike, standard 10w 40 car
oil will do, I really can't see the justification for £30 specialised bike
oil for a CB500, or is there?

I like Putoline Super DX4 in just about everything (apart from the Rotax)
seems OK and is under GBP4/litre

You may want to shop around a bit - I've just bought a 4l can of
bike-spec Silikolene (sp?) 10w40 dino juice for 12.50.

Stafford show - there's always a bloke there doing good prices on
    Silikolene oils.

Alternatively the Halfrauds bike specific stuff isn't that expensive
    and pretty good IMHO.

Might be worth a look. I put some v.cheap mineral oil in not so long ago
    with no bad effects.

It's a little better than running without oil. :)
