Smokie? Oh, yeah, google tells me they did a cover of it, now I come
to think about it. But you should know that us USTs would first think
of the original by Dr. Hook.

Tell that to my shitty little Honda Civic. It was sucking fumes before I
stuck 10 quid in the tank and it lasted 112 miles before I put any more in.
That was a mix of 62 miles on the motorway at as close to 90mph as I could
keep it (traffic)and the rest was farting about town. And it's a fucking
    petrol (1.5) not a diesel.

Bollocks - Dr.Hook certainly did not do the original version of
"Living Next Door to Alice" (that first version was by New World), and
Smokie's version is absolutely the definitive one. In fact, just
checking, the Dr.Hook version was after the Smokie one.

When I went to see Dennis Locorriere a couple of years back, the
support act was the lead singer of Smokie. Of course, he did LNDTA and
of course, most of the audience did the Chubby Brown version.

He said he didn't mind as CB's version had helped pay his mortgage.

Read a nice bit of info (from Edwyn Collins IIRC) on a website a while
ago where he described being on tour at small venues, and meeting Dennis
Locorriere of Dr Hook who was touring at the time.

Dennis was a bit miffed to discover there was a Dr Hook "tribute" on at
the same venue a couple of weeks later who were charging more than he was.

At the moment I don't really have the time or the money but I'm job
hunting at the moment so maybe that'll improve (ideally I'd like to
get another smaller bike as the commuter then take my time doing the
    zephyr up properly).

  12. Please tell me that was the car I gave you. I'd like to think it lived on
    a bit longer.

Funny innit? I'm now unemployed and buy cars brand new.

    anything wrong.
