It's past that stage now really, it's just going to get more "unusual".
Come next bike time, I really don't know what I'm going to do with it.
I'd like to keep it but I suspect my next main beast will be lighter,
faster and will almost certainly handle better so it could be relegated
to an also-ran. I can't even use it as a hack because the back's been
cut off and I get the (said this a dozen times, maybe) foot wide stripe
of shite up my back in the wet and end up sitting in a puddle of slurry.

No. But I've always understood that if you ride somebody else's bike
or car on your own third party insurance then any damage to said
machine would be damages to a third party, and hence should be
convered. I've never tested this theory out, though.

Not personally, but I suspect if the owner has fully comp. insurance, and
there were no witnesses, then perhaps a little manipulation of the truth
about who was riding might occur.

You'd still want your lost no-claims and excess back off the clumsy twat
    though.

And that, in a nutshell, is why I always stand and watch the HAGM-fest
on Sunday mornings at the Black Horse. Apart from Bonwick's old shed
of course, 'cos he'd never have noticed any extra damage up to the
point where I'd have to return it in a series of small cardboard
    boxes.

I'm certain this is bollocks. It suggests not third party cover, but
    comprehensive cover.

It _suggests_ that the rider is covered against a claim by a third
party[1] which, in this case, sould be the owner of the vehicle which
was damaged. Comprehensive cover is needed to cover the insured's own
    loss.

As I say, I don't _know_ that this is the case, but I've long
suspected that the insurance industry is pulling a fast one by not
    making this well-known.

    I await a definitive answer from an insurance-law expert[2].

[1] The first and second parties being the insured and the insurer.
    [2] i.e. a claims lawyer.

It _suggests_ that when riding or driving the vehicle, you are covered
against a claim by a third party, much as you would be while on/in your
own vehicle. In the same sense, you can't claim against yourself as a
third party when you crash your own vehicle.

Wishful thinking, I fear. But I look forward to being proved wrong.
