I binned last year wearing a cheap one. Which contained a pair of
boots. I really did give myself a good kicking.

It hurt for fucking weeks afterwards, couldn't sleep properly or
    anything.

Of course I don't wear a back protector and still wear a rucksack when
    riding.

  2. If I ride fast solo on my FJ12 the slip stream takes the rain around and
on to the passenger seat where it runs down until I'm sitting in a
    puddle.

  3. Ah.

Have you considered a tank bag instead of a rucksack?

Make sure youy carry some full coke cans and some security chain in
    it.

I wouldn't ever wear a rucksac as i'd like my vertebrae to remain
roughly in line with each other in the event of an off .

When I binned in '97 I had a full wekends gear in my rucksack. I pushed
away from the bike, landeded on my back and bounced straight back to my
    feet.

The was white fluid everywhere, but no use crying over spilt milk, and the
    pub was shut.
I've been like that for years .
I bet you ride with a chain over your shoulder as well ?

  6. Heh. Disc lock is as far as my security stretches.

Whilst wearing a rucksack might increase your chances of a back injury,
not wearing one will not decrease those chances to zero.

Now I have one, I don't ride without my Knox, so that /less/ of an
issue, and as I've pointed out previously, I cannot justify spending
hundreds on luggage. I don't think a tank bag will work well on my tank
    - so I need to find one that I can test.
Not really, but thanks anyway :)

Well, I've had an aching back but not like that. Unbelievable amounts
of pain from just lying on my back.
Not any more although I used to... when 16 or 17. Never came off with
    one wrapped around me luckily.

Remind me next time we may meet up and I'll bring mine. It's one of
Oxford's good ones[1]. I think it was supposed to be about 90 quid, but
I got it for about half that, 2nd hand. I remember hearing about
somewhere that was doing a new version at similar prices - if it works
I'll try to find out where it was and if they're still doing them.

[1] map pocket at bottom, expands to contain a lid, turns into a
rucksack, detachable front pocket for wallet/important items, rainproof
    cover/showercap thing.

  11. Sounds like you have the same one as me. Marvellous piece of kit. Only
bought mine in the Spring (from HRS in Bristol), it's travelled several
thousand miles with me in all weathers and still looks like it did the
day I bought it. Cost 80 new and well, well worth it.

    Cheers,
