Rucksack recommendations ?

My 5 y/o Frank Thomas rucksack is starting to disintegrate at an
exponential rate, so I need a replacement quickly (amazing it lasted
that long I suppose, given the usual comments about Frank's
    workmanship).

I'm usually only carrying a laptop, phone, wallet etc., so I don't want
anything too big so the contents will just rattle around. But I
occasionally use it for overnight trips when it needs to hold a bit more
stuff. One nice feature of my current one is that it's got a zip that
you undo to let the thing expand when you need more capacity.

    Anyone have any recommendations ?

    Thanks

What you want is a Crumpler rucksack:

Mine is a Base Toucher ('kin stupid name) & is the best laptop case
I've seen - they do a larger model if you need more space. Also doesn't
look like a computer bag so you're less obviously carrying round
    £1000s worth of stuff.

It's been fairly waterproof, though I'd not like to risk it in a
downpour. Quite pricey though - I think it was £90 from Micro Anvika.

Yeah, use Google (or Google Groups)

There are over 300 references to rucksacks in uk.rec.motorcycles alone!

p.s. DaKine rucksacks are my preferred choice.

Odd this one is because I have a pair of their boots which would qualify
in their own right to race vintage and a mate of mine has a pair of
their gloves that are as old as some of Lozzo daughters.

Tank bag. Once you get one you will be a convert for ever.

Aye, I've got a Berghaus Nitro which is a cycling specific one. It's
designed so the weight sit low on your back so when you're on a bike
it doesn't rest on your shoulders. Perfect for a motorbike.

It's was commuted in all weathers with a laptop in for 6 years and
barring dirt is still in perfect nick.

I think he wants a recommendation - not a list.

I've got one of them - though it's the bigger one. Either way, they rock.

The big ones can be shrunk to keep the contents steady - mine rarely has more
than a laptop and some printed documents in it

Sometime around Mon, 14 Mar 2005 16:43:43 +0000, TW babbled on about:
I think I still have a proper padded laptop rucksack that I have never
used since day one, mail me if you want it.

Its really really stoopid that they don't just make the fucking things
waterproof though. All this bollocks with shower caps is a royal PITA.

OMG they do a pet carrier!

I've spent hours in the pouring rain (sans cover) without mine letting
any water through - all you need to do is keep moving forward.

Mine leaks like a sieve, did even behind the K1100 fairing. I think I
    spot a shopping opportunity!

Cheap and will last a f**king sight longer than 5 years.

Waterproofness might be an issue, though.

No need to get personal, even if it is true.
