Rubber bushings - Discontinued - Arrgh!

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by R. Pierce Butler, Aug 12, 2005.

  1. I have two rubber bushings on my 81 CBX rear suspension (ProLink) that I want
to replace. I ordered the bushings from my dealer but the bushings are
discontinued. Is there some way I can make new rubber or polyurethane
bushings for the critter? I don't have dimensions yet as I wanted to get the
parts for the rebuild before I tore it apart. Is there a place that will
make custom rubber bushings for old bikes and cars? Is there a company that
has a catalog of standard sizes I can buy and then machine down for my needs?
I hate machining rubber but I will do it if I have to.

    thanks

  2. Any decent engineering shop will machine duplicates out of phosphor
bronze and then press them into place.

Better than the hateful rubber bushes, and quite possibly cheaper, too.

Alternatively, Dave Silver (www.davidsilverspares.co.uk) lists them for
the Z model (yes, I know that's the twin-shock) at ukp9.00 each. He may
have them for the Pro-Link. He exports, and the service is superb.

have you tried thriftyrider.com or bikebandit.com? Even eBay motors is
    a good place! Butch
