I won a Clymer manual for the FJ on eBay last week, and it arrived this
    morning!!!

I am both pleasantly surprised and very puzzled.

Still, shouldn't look a gift horse, and all that eh?

Postmen working overtime to clear the backlog.
It all stems form the re-organisation when 2nd post was cancelled a few
weeks ago. Locally they are 'half a postman' down - no one seems
interested in doing 20 hours a week for crap wages, so the other
postmen/women are doing overtime to clear the pile of mail that is
accumulating. This is from just a small office (6 workers), so the backlog
is managable, bigger offices are having problems, so, as in your case,
looks like they are being paid double time to work on Sunday.

Ah, I see. So apart from working on a Sunday, it's quite beneficial for
    the workers ;-)

It's a 2000's thing. Less people on the books = theoretically lower
costs, even after overtime. But it all breaks when people are doing
    50%+ overtime month after month.

    Its not.

The wages are shit so the PO can't recruit to their full establishment.
And then rely on overtime to make up the difference.

This is useful for the employer as paying overtime is always cheaper than
employing a real live person (less oncosts even taking into account an
    enhanced rate).

It also allows them to keep the wages artificially low as the staff make
up their money through overtime. So the overall wage bill M-F is less
than if they paid at a rate that would allow them to recruit or retain
staff and the pensions and NI costs are less.

So the staff get less per hour and their pensions are worth less. So in
effect they are working on Sunday for no benefit.

Don't trust the Clymer to tell you the truth all the time.
    Discrepancies have been noted...

So, not much better than a Haynes BOL then?

FWIW, I got it for the pictures and basic descriptions, most of what I
need I get from the FJ Club site.

    About the same :-/
If you're working on the forks, use the Haynes. The Clymer has some bits
the wrong way up. Your forks are different to mine, though (mines a 1990).

Fortunately this is a capitalist state and we operate on a system where
    loans are repaid with interest.
