Simonk is a wet bob although he's more into real boats. He's the bloke
    I'd ask.

If you want cheap but not shit, hit ebay for a Delta Airmaster.
You should be able to find a local one on there for between 60 and
80 quid, and if you don't use it, punt it back out for the same.

There's one in Belfast I know of. Quite a good one.

Email me if anyone wants it.

    Cheers

    Indeed.

    Concept II - YKIMS

You can pick up the Model B ones relatively cheaply now - those are the ones
with the fan in a wire cage. They're quite noisy, but really solidly built.
While the later ones are quieter and have a slightly different feel, the
calibrations are more or less the same across each series so you can compare
scores with your mates/people down the gym/whatever

They hold their value very well, so even if they seem pricey on eBay, when
you inevitably get fed up you'll get your money back

I thought you'd probably say that, but have you seen those "Water Rower"
machines? What's the opinion of them from our resident rowing expert?

  7. I'm far from an expert on rowing machines, but we have these at the gym
and they seem much good indeed to me. Very well built, quality
    machines.

Not great. Claims to feel more like rowing a boat, but it doesn't. The
performance monitor used to be dodgy - wouldn't give you more "credit" for
pulling harder, just gave you a higher score the more strokes you did. I've
seen some of them after a few months' heavy use and they don't stand up as
well as the C2, although they're probably fine for domestic use, and they're
    certainly quieter and better looking

No thanks; as much as I enjoy kayaking, I've got more than enough
expensive, time-consuming hobbies as it is.
    But what about your kayak?

I use a C2 down the gym, but I've got a Tunturi R610 at home which,
whilst not close to the Concept in build-quality etc. is a perfectly
acceptible and considerably cheaper home use alternative.

    But then, I'm no expert.
