Route from Berks to Donington ?

I'm going up to Donington tomorrow. To avoid a tedious motorway
journey, the RAC route planner is suggesting A4010 to Aylesbury, A413
    to Towcester-ish, A5 to Hinckley, A447 then A511/A421/A453 into
    Donington.

I know the route to Towcester has some good parts, but I've no idea
about North from there. A5 is presumably rather straight and
gatso-infested. Is this likely to be any better than just slogging up
the M1 ? Or does anyone have any other route suggestions from Towcester
    ?

    Thanks

I can't recall any static cameras between Towcester and J18 of the M1
which is where I normally join the motorway for the the last leg of
the trip to Donington Park. There are occasionally mobile units and
    unmarked cars though.

DP have introduced a new traffic management plan for this weekend.

I would ignore the signs for J23 which takes you all around the
housess and take the more usual and direct exit off J23A past the
    airport.

I hate Towcester. Every town, village and hamlet for 20 miles around
has a Town Centre and a badly positioned sign post to it.

Rather than struggling through Hinckley to find the A447, I'd go a
little further up the A5 and take the right turn up the A444 (lovely
biking road that I'm luck enough to travel most days). Follow this to
Twycross, and then turn right onto the B4116 at the mini-roundabout
signposted Snarestone / Measham. You can then join the A42 at J12 if
you wish, following it all the way towards Donington, or come off at
J13 onto the A511, turn left and then right onto the old A453 through
    Lount and Breedon.

    Cheers

There's a Truvelo about half way along the dual carriageway, normally it's
    on the return side though.

Truvelos don't count :) I now have vague memories of a camera in the
    short 30/40mph section through Kilsby.
