He was actually using a 2004 spec chassis, with the new V8 engine
fitted. The 2004 car originally ran with the V10, as did last years
car. Pretty good effort I think - for a first outing in traffic. Looks
more likely he will make the swap in 2007 to me.

  3. What is Webber doing down that far in the new car? Eek.

Huh, they've changed the engine rules? You don't have to have a V10 anymore?
Will Ferrari be allowed their V12s again?

    2004 spec chassis, yes.

    V8, no.

He was using the V10, according to various F1 specialist websites. Check out www.f1-live.com for starters.

Williams had a few technical probs during the day on both of their cars.

Also, testing times this early in the seaon mean jack all, considering most teams are simply out there to run systems check and to
    make sure parts work.

Oh! And in that day's testing, Webber was doing wet weather tyre evaluation.

While true, I think the fact he was in the middle of the rankings means
there's a fighting chance he could make a successful cross over - it's
been a while since we had one of those - 50's or 60's Jim Reed wasn't it ?

Unless he was using an non-restricted V10 (teams using V10's to compete this year must restrict them so they don't blow the V8's
    into the weeds).

If he had a full power V10, then the times mean nothing of the sort.

Wonder why they'd swap chassis in 07 when they're trialling for 05

Mike Hailwood drove F1 but I assume you're talking about the only man to be
a dual F1/500cc champion; John Surtees. (Early 60s bike and mid 60s car I
    think)

John Surtees, I think, is the name you might be looking for.
