Displaced and exposed shin fracture.... nasty. That means the bones
are misaligned and bone has broken through the skin - he must be so
angry about something. Not the first time he has broken bones but the
first time he has missed a race because of it.

Yamaha will have to fill that spot. There ought to be a way to do
something interesting with it. And to give one or more up and coming
riders a chance to sample MotoGP. It's really hard though to see how
they can come up with something that works this year and it'll be a
shame if they just put a test rider on it.

Then there's Burgess. What does he do for 8 races?

I assume this doesn't affect the engine allocation? Except that Rossi's
slot could have 3 less race meetings on the engines that everyone else.
That might mean that they can give him a shorter target life engine at
the end of the year when Lorenzo has already won the championship.

If he's out for the year, and I now assume he is they HAVE to replace him,
as the team can only miss 3 races.
I wonder if Edwards will get a shot on the good M1. Or maybe Spies will get
a chance to work with Burgess.

I think he is the only choice if Yamaha has even a bit of foresight.

First of all, Lorenzo now has the number one spot firmly covered.
Second of all, who knows if the Rossi that comes back from this type
of injury will be the same Rossi... I for one doubt it. He's older,
and history is full of great riders that weren't quite as eager to
risk things for that extra tenth after that one big crash that hurt
them. So Yamaha better develop someone, and do so fast. Lorenzo right
now seems great, but he is also one to overcook things and suffer yet
another injury that slows him down. Spies is the guy Yamaha needs to
    bring up, quickly.
I think Edwards' career is clearly winding down. He is the wrong
investment for a top team at this stage. His Mugello result is not a
strong selling point either :). I also don't think Edwards would
enjoy the pressure of sitting on Vale's bike and with his team and
resources around him at this stage, so I doubt that will happen.
Let's wait and see. There is no doubt Pedrosa is fast when the bike
works for him. But I think Pedrosa's problem is that the circumstances
where the bike works for him that way only happen twice a season.
Mugello represents one down. He'll probably struggle again soon
    enough...
I would have liked to see where Hayden would have ended up, but then
again it seems he fell as he tried to up intensity a notch. Not his
race for sure. Good to see Stoner keep his head. Good to see Melandri
    gaining his confidence back.

Anyhow, I for sure will be watching more Moto2 henceforth. Is that an
    entertaining class or what... :)

If it was Ducati instead of Yamaha, Bayliss would already be having the
correct sponsors sewn onto his leathers.

If Julian is right, seems a bit of a shame to me but might be
    interesting.

As for a tib/fib break ending Rossi's reign, I'll be surprised but
only a little. I have to keep reminding myself he's human.

    Go fast. Take chances.

Indeed. It *has* to be Spies. Just my opinion, but a strongly held
    one.
It's the age-hurt-accomplishment combo. Hey, I have taken flak in here
for being a Rossi cheerleader in the past. I do think he is one of the
most talented riders ever, and whatever we think about talent, he most
certainly is among the most accomplished ever by any measure. Given
the latter... what is his motivation to risk another bad injury going
forward... I for one would not be surprised if the Rossi that comes
back from this is still a stellar rider, yet a rider more willing to
settle for a great payday and presentable results, yet unwilling to
always commit to winning. Come on, he's a veteran, he grew up as a kid
competing like this, and probably in his head he is an older
competitor than his age attests to.
