  1. They tried selling the 400SS. They might have sold one.

    Rough rule of them - any 400 that's a sleeved down 400 (ZZR400) wasn't
    officially imported.

All the "major" sports 400s (FZR, GSXR, VFR, ZXR) were officially
imported, except the CBR400 Baby Blade.

Some of the super-sports 400s were (FZR400RR) were and some weren't
    (NC35).

Um, in Europe patents very much like that are being granted every day.
    See http://swpat.ffii.org/patents/txt/ep/last/last100.en.html
for just the last 100 (there are about 30,000 software patents
that will become enforceable when the above law is passed.)

Want to write software in Europe? Soon as this law passes you're
fucked mate, unless you work for a large corp that can afford
the legal staff and has a good patent portfolio to cross-license
with. (Just wrote a relatively well received paper on this topic
for a course I'm taking, so it's kinda fresh in my mind right now.)

    What about if it's a 600 that's a bored-out 600?

well, they definitely sold at least two, as the aforementioned Hursts
had a 2nd-hand one permanently on display (once bitten, twice shy). And
I've seen a different one in London a couple of times[1].

[1] very distinctive (read: "horrible") red/white/green paint job and
horrible bubble-font "Junior" on each side.

  8. They sold a few to Japan, I think. I'm trying to imagine just how
gutless a bike it must have been.

    Italian home-market model.

I've never ridden an SS but I've ridden a few other bikes that were
    "powered" by this engine.

They were seriously lacking in pedals. Especially when compared to a Morini
    of the same capacity.
