    Heh. AOL.
One of the reasons we camp on the car site is that you can always hide
a slab or two of Stella Atois under the luggage in the boot.

    Not very.

I mean, they'll let speccy Geordie twats in; how rufty-tufty is that,
    eh?

    Hide?

As opposed to "ride in with a case of beer strapped to your pillion
    seat"?

I've never actually seen them confiscate any beer. I think the "don't
bring your own alcohol" thing is a combination of the conditions of the
licence and the fact that they want to increase their profits by selling
their own booze. Can't blame 'em for that, really.

I know it's the norm but I've *never* been able to live in the situation
where I had to ask/reason/justify my social movements and actions to
    anyone.

The ticket I have makes no mention of not bringing in alcohol, just "no
glass to be brought on site."

    Me niether.
We've had the car boot/back of van given a cursory search every now and
    then.
But I'm not going to take the chance...
They seem more bothered about not taking any glass bottles in

They may have sold him a ticket, but whether he'll be allowed in is a
    different matter.

He should be okay, as long as he keeps his lid on when he's not in his
    tent.

Or he could shave his head perhaps?

friday morning. the plan is to leave here midday ish so it should be
two ish. Gibbo is planning on getting there about that time. YTC is
likely to be later but we have his tent.

I see that the folk turning up have already been mentioned, well apart
from a male junior Bonwick. six tents [1] will be set up in the bike
field. I've camped in the car one before and all you get is extreme
    dust, especially in this heat.

you have to remember that the bike field has a exit so you don't have
to go half way round the world to get out.

I think I've covered the points mentioned in this thread.

    Good plan.
I'd sunburn in moment and look like a match if I did that.

Great. I'll head off about 11ish, so I should arrive there at about the
    same time.

I've got mobile numbers for yourself, Ginge and YTC, so I'll get in touch
    with someone.

As you know, my bike is looking pretty distinctive at the moment, so keep an
    eye out for me.
My mate Mick, who Gibbo and Bruce have met, might come along as well, but
then he says he will every year and hasn't been once yet.
Oh, that's OK - I'm going to be there, so it will piss it down.

Sorry about that - fucking Microsoft.

If I get into a thread with Phil (and it is *only* Phil) that nests too many
layers I start getting an error message "Line 3 too long" when I try to post
and it screws up everything in Outlook.

What?! The car field's usually terrible for it, if the weather's at all
    decent.

I ended up camping in there one year (1997-ish?), when for some reason
the field was wheat stubble rather than the grass that was everywhere
else. Blazing sunshine almost all weekend, apart from some light drizzle
overnight that did nothing to dampen the dust, just helped it to stick
    to everything.

    *nods*

I've seen it several years in the ooodles of years I've been going.
One of my early years was also bad. could have been 93/4? dunno. have
some photos of it somewhere. maybe I'll root them out as they'll
likely have the date on the back.
that might have been one of the first years they moved cars into a
separate field. I camped there cos my brother & sis in law came. twas
also the year a chop turned up at the gate and immediately burst into
flames which melted the whole of it.

Its a *BIKE* rally, the only cars that should go are those that contain
    disabled people.

    Car fields are shite.

Leave the car, walk on and go the proper field.

Gibbo took his 10 year old daughter on the bike.
