Long time no post.... circumstances etc whihch will shortly lead to a
    #two application..

    In the meantime..

I know there are people from all over in here, so surely someone can
    answer this:

Imagine for a moment, hypothetically, that you were meeting a young
lady in Rochester one lunchtime and wanted to take her to a pub for a
drink and something to eat (decent bar meal), where would you go?

On Rochester's High Street there are two popular pubs - 'The Queens Arms'
    and the 'The Kings Legs'.
Inbetween these two, set back off the road a bit, is a smaller
less-frequented pub and is worth a visit.
So, ask your good lady if you can take her up 'The Arse'....

Hmm... I was there a couple of Sundays ago.

Pikeys as we are, we ate in the Wetherspoons one in the High Street... which
    was ok, as it goes.

There are quite a few pubs along the main High Street there, but if you walk
right to the west end, there's a pub on the corner, overlooking the river -
even if the food is shit, if you get the right window seat, at least the
view may make up for it.

If it doesn't absolutely *have* to be in central Rochester, if you drive
down to Chatham Maritime, there is a very posh Shepherd Neame bistro type
pub, with seating outside on the quayside, called the 'The Ship and Trades'

    http://www.shepherd-neame.co.uk/pubs/pubs.php/shipandtrades_chatham

Never eaten there myself, but the food looked suitably expensive as to
suggest it might actually be a bit better than Wetherspoons and their ilks
usual fare, and if nothing else, she'll probably come away with the
    impression you're a bit pretentious. ;-)

(Assuming the're open lunchtimes) I'd recommend you skip the pub and
go to Simply italian in Rochester high st. (Cathedral end, opposite
    the kings head)

Why not? It gives her a chance to compare prices and service levels and

Ah, but Chatham Maritime is ever so slightly upmarket, compared to Ch'am
    itself...

    Yes.

Stop relying on UKRM to get you into her knickers.

It'll end in tears. And a lonely wank.

Try multimap for a road called "The Spires", then look around for a pub in
    that general area.

    It's *really* nice there ;)
