oh dear. I never really liked the sound of Moog synths, mind. Actually,
there are very few early 70s synths I like; early/mid 80s stuff sounds
    are what I like.

It was either a Bandit or a CG - not sure which.

Oh yes. You can distinctly hear both a mini-Moog and a poly-Moog on
    those tracks.

Well ok. Cars was the first single I ever bought and on the back of
that, The Pleasure Principle was the first album I ever bought, I was
about 10 I think. Replicas after it was also a fucking good album. Still
    is.

hmm. I can't quite remember the first single I ever bought[1], but the
first ever album was "Bert Weedon's 22 Golden Guitar Greats" on IIRC
Warwick records. I was about 8.

[1] though the first single I bought that I still own was "Love will
    Tear Us Apart".

I never ended up with an album collection. I saw a different live band
three days a week from the age of about 16 to 26 and if I wasn't out at
    a the pub/gig I was sitting in a sofa listening to someone else's. I
simply had no need to buy my own recorded music.

That said, the few albums I have acquired were deliberate and are
    cherished.

Cobblers, everyone can remember the first single they bought. Are you
sure you're not embarrassed to admit it was "knowing me, knowing you" by
    ABBA?
Classic, it's so good to start life on the right track.
Ah, well there lies the rub, see. I lost all my Gary Numan albums and
singles (I had most of them up to the Living Ornaments tours and
Berserker) but left them round a g/f's house and she never gave them
    back when we split.

Slade - Far far away. Although I had some re-releases of beatles stuff
too, which may have been bought earlier.
    Bwahaaha.

'Ang on, I've just remembered my first album. "Classics 100", it was
    called. As advertised on TV.
Nice. I lost all my singles with an ex-girlfriend many years ago. Not
that I had much to be bothered about, mind.

Not surprised. Those bakelite 78s were a bit fragile.

I had quite a substantial collection of music, mostly rock in its origin
but it all either got nicked, lost, lent or vanished.
Look after them then and don't forget to eat well.

no, really - never bought an Abba record in my life. See, I owned about
15-20 LPs (most of which cast-offs from a cousin) before I got around
to buying singles, so it's the albums I remember most. I've had another
think about it, and actually I bought Joy Division's "Transmission"
before LWTUA. That would have been 1979, almost certainly the first
single I bought (on 12", mind - I bought hardly any 7" singles).
I think I still have it somewhere.
I lost a bunch that I'd lent to a mate during the Unfortunate Indoor
    Barbeque Event of '97.
