Victoria, the state with the strictest speed enforcement in Australia, has
an increased road toll so far this year. NSW is also slightly up.
    Thank God for Speed Cameras....

    Only 2 in WA?

Maybe we need fixed cameras to increase.......I mean decrease that figure.

"SOUTH Australia's heavy Easter weekend road toll might have been lighter
had police not been diverted by protests at Baxter detention centre, Police

Yes because us victorians are so paranoid about speed cameras in every
tree that we only look at the road now and then inbetween staring at
    the speedo. hence more accidents.

Funny how the only State/Territory without speeed limits was the only
State/Territory without a fatality. (Last time I checked!)

None in ACT, only one serious injury (downgraded from critical to serious
condition) and that was a P plater from Cooma apparently.

But then, most of us head off down the coast (or elsewhere) for Easter, so
the roads aren't all that busy in town.

Funny enough, despite all the "blitz" warnings, on the way home Monday all I
saw were 2 bikes (travelling together) and one radar car pulled in at a
    driver reviver.

Qld hit Saturday hard - on a 2km stretch there were four radar units
covering the northbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway - two within sight
    of each other!

2 vehicles hidden with handheld radars, one camera followed by another
    handheld shortly after the camera...

Wait till the tourists start to arrive up here, then we'll see the road
    toll rise.

with 1% of the population, how is that relevant ?

You have to divide the figured by vehicle hours to compare them.

Maybe the stats should represent where the driver at fault lives, not where
    the crash happened...

    "Brad Hogan" <
With some 10 million vehicle tourist movements per year.

Half the NT toll (47 - 58 per year) are alcohol affected aboriginal persons
impacting vehicles in built-up areas or to a lesser extent staggering along
    the road outside towns.

Overseas north asian tourists are a recognised hazard at speed.

  16. Well the old Tasmanian Horse & Cart combo isn't as deadly to crash as a
    modern motor vehicle.

    I like this quote:

"A man of science isn't trying to prove anything. He's trying to find
    out what will prove itself."

  20. I do indeed...
Full of quotable quotes - and entirely relevant to our killer local
    road.
First, there is shite alignment, wrong camber and road subsidence.
    Then.
Just add rain to (**** knows why, but regular) diesel spills = instant
    head-ons.

In this case, even the police know what's wrong.
Their super-bright solution is a reduced speed limit, saturation radar
coverage and attempting to charge anyone who comes to grief
    hereabouts with criminal offences.
    Dickheads.

They and the Main Roads jerks are the real criminals.
    Time will prove that so.
