No idea if it is programmable but the journo suggests altering it would be
pointless. The final paragraph suggests that Aprilia should reconsider
retuning to give the engine a bit more go in the upper rev range. There
again, what Aprilia want people to do is buy a 1 litre bike should they
want something with a bit more go. They seem to be following BMW's strategy
of getting people into the brand with a £6k bike, hoping they will continue
to upgrade until the have several bikes, including the £15k range topper.

OIC. The old RSV Tuono actually has quite a signiifcant step in the
power delivery at 6K. It's almost like the engine was only running as
a very grunty 500 single below that.
Hmm. The actual cost of building a 750 as opposed to a litre bike must
be pretty much the same unless they use really cheap components,
though a quick glance at the MCN review (yes, I know but it was the
first I stumbled across) suggests otherwise.

So, are they selling at at reduced profit, I wonder? I guess they'd
have to make at least some sort of gesture; I don't suppose insuranc &
other runing costs would be enough to be tempting otherwise.

The Shiver did feel to supply surprisingly respectable torque at
    relatively low revs.

Quality seems OK to me, but time will tell.

I'm easily satisfied with 90ish BHP. Only one bike overtook me on Sunday
(which I soon caught up at the next twisties) and I passed several, but
cheap is good when I have an MX5 and other bikes to support.

it's niche marketing. BMW have it to a tee. Just look at the new F650 which
is actually an 800cc paralle twin. However, by keeping the F650 tag &
selling at a Versys price they attract more mugs to the brand. A
significant proportion then go onto buy F800s or R1200s.The F650 must be
heavily subsidised or the profits on the F800/R1200 are massive.

If my experience of the Tuono is anything to go by, Aprilia know how
to make a bike that handles.

Actually, I think my Tuono's only supposed to make about 115BHP, so
it's not that much more power, really.

It's not a problem except on trackdays, when it runs out of puff on
the longer straights. There's so much grunt generally that I don't
look at the tacho as often as I used to on the old LC & FZR, though in
part that's also a result of riding the YZ.

Takes a bit more conscious effort than say a Saturno, but not bad at all
once you get used to it.
Crank or rear wheel? I think the Shiver is only in the low 80's where it
    matters.
    I know what you mean.

I thought that was crank HP but after a swift Google, Wikipedia
reckons 123 at the crank, so OK, rather more.
