    As part of a campaign to get road improvements made on the Milngavie
    to Drymen (Stockiemuir)road in East Dumbartonshire I am looking for
    details of a fatal motorbike accident. From memory it occurred between
    Milngavie in the Carbeth Inn 2 or 3 years ago but is not for some
    reason included in a list of accidents supplied to us.

    Improving sight lines on 2 or 3 blind bends.

    That might reduce the *number* of accidents - but surely the accidents that
    do happen will presumably be at a higher speed and, thus, are more likely to
    be fatal?

    Not necessarily. For example the safest roads are motorways despite
    the higher speed limit as they have good lines of site. All traffic
    (in each carriageway) going the same direction etc.
    Also after a certain speed is reached the consequences of an
    accident depend more on what you hit after you lose control rather
    than absolute speed.
    Think of bikers crashing at high speeds on racing circuits where they
    slide along and come to a halt. As opposed to hitting a wall as soon
    as you crash.
    So any improvements that reduce the number of accidents must be a
    benefit.

    There aren't many sharp blind bends on motorways.

    Remind me again which bike it is you currently have that does over a 100,
    let alone a 150? :)

    It's a ZZR600, actually.

    Haven't ridden it nearly a year, mind.

    Unless you accidentally come off on a RH slip road thinking you are
    still in the fast lane. :{

  14. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
    drugs began to take hold. I remember petrolcan
    That really rings a bell. There used to be one like that in Glasgow,
    afair. If not there, I've certainly come across it somewhere in the UK.
