Interesting [1] situation in Harlow ATM. Near where we live, they are
re-surfacing using those huge plen jobs that strip the surface off. With
it, it takes all the road paint adn in this case, the mini roundabouts

So, given that the sign for the roadnabout is still there, there are big
warnings that there are no raod markings and we have no reason to think
that the roundabout will not be replaced, how does one approach the juncion
    [2]. As a roundabout or a normal t-junction?

[1] For certain values of interesting

Road markings are everything, in their absence you should probably treat it
as a give way in all directions on all approaches as it's not clear [1] who
    has right of way.

I've heard that "they" have plans afoot to remove road markings from
some roads, as it makes drivers feel less secure and so drive slower.
Sounds fucking scary to me though.

Worked in Holland. They also removed a lot of roadside furniture and
warning signs at junctions, roundabouts etc. as they distracted the
    driver.

The roads here were I've come across that seem to usually result in someone
driving along in the middle of the road.

Why this should be I don't know, but it's a bit alarming.

They added traffic lights to junction 14 of the M5 a couple of months
ago. Except they only switched them on once and that morning was
bedlam. Whereas normally there were no real problems on that day there
were queues right out onto the A38 and down the M5 slip roads.

As far as I know they haven't switched them on again since. They have
even painted the give way markings back in again now so I haven't got a
scooby what they are up to.

Do any of the Bristol/Dursley locals know what's going on here?

That would be very nice. Beds County Council, in their infinite
wisdom, decided to do something about a "dangerous" road to the North
of Bedford. They conceived the "B660 Route Safety Project" in
response to a couple of bikes going through the hedge and complaints
from roadside residents of noise and speeding bikes.

It is now *much* "safer": more road signs(1) to crash into, for a
start - but their piece de resistance was to paint huge areas of
tarmac with the speed limit ... "30" and "40" extending from verge to
centre line - just at the point where you want to turn in.

"SLOW" in enormous capitals right across the braking areas for corners
and massive red, white and black triangles on the apexes reminding you
to think of the fucking children.

    Cunts.

    1. Substantial steel posts supporting metal signs bearing the legend
"B660 Route Safety Project" on the outside of corners, for example.

That used[1] to happen at the Target roundabout[2]. If the lights
were out for any reason the queues were almost non-existent.

[1] I don't use the route in rush hour anymore.

    Pip says...
Whilst working in Dorchester last week I decided to drive to
Weymouth (**** all else to do). Not a bad little run, just before
arriving in Weymouth there is a down hill 180 right hander - very
nice. Problem being that there is a field entrance right on the
bend, so there was a great "Keep Clear" marking across the road -
just where you're likely to be cranked right over.

    Fuckers.

IMO traffic lights at roundabouts was always a bloody silly idea.

They have done the opposite at the Quedgeley roundabout by the Cross
Hands. Huge signas have been added on the roundabout and on the central
reservation. They are black and white chevron fences which block your
view of the roundabout completely as you approach from a dual
carriageway. This has the effect of slowing/stopping all traffic as you
can't see if the roundabout is clear until you are right on top of it.

Depends. In Paris, where drivers tend to err on the agressive side at
    roundabouts, I think it's a decent idea.

That was the morning that a red BX came up the slip from the northbound side
and t-boned one of the traffic light posts IIRC.
