    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good bike gear for kids that isn't
    motox?

I have to take my 9yo on the back of my bike to school on the way to my
work, and she will need a helmet and jacket at the very least.

    Any ideas?

BMW have kids gear. You should be able to get a helmet at any dealer.

There are kids leather brando style jackets for sale on ebay. I've
found road bike helmets smaller than XS (rather than mx helmets) for
kids are _very_ hard to get in Oz.

HJC make a "youth" range of road helmets and some of the MDS, AGV and Shark
branded XS sizes might do thte trick. Grab the kid and get them to try some
    of this stuff on.

Yah I had a look at the HJC 'youth' range, they are ok for most kids of
about 8 and up, but they don't make them in sizes to suit most 3 and 4 year
    old heads.

There isn't much available for kids younger than 6.
    Unless they're big kids.

I may well be wrong, but aren't there legal issues re minimum ages for
kids to be pillions on road bikes? I thought it was around 5yo, so I'm
not surprised then if there isn't a market for helmets in that size
range. Shouldn't be too much of an issue finding a helmet for a 9yo
    though.

There is a regulation (I think) that says that a child has to be able to
    reach the footpegs.

I however have a sidecar as well as a solo and I was after a non mx
style helmet for molly (4) to use in the sidecar, as the mx ones don't
keep the wind out very well and wearing mx goggles isn't a proper fix
    for that.

Yes, a sidecar would certainly qualify as an exception to that rule -
or at least, one would hope the rules were sensible enough to allow
it!!! Good luck with your search.

You ma well be wrong indeed. At the moment there are no laws regarding minimum ages, although there are proposals in the pipeline.

Currently the only legal requirement is that a child must be able to reach the pillion footpegs.

I think that in Vic it's 8yo + be able to reach pegs.

That's the proposal. Not yet law.

In Vic it is currently simply that they must be able to reach the footpegs.
