Well since nobody could tell me how big and how good the Rjays explorer rack
bag was i went and got one from bikebiz for 110 bucks..

From everybody telling me it is too big, i dont think it is, when it is not
expanded it seems to be the same size as most other bags..

The built quality isnt that flast, with one zipper seems defective so i cant
use the bumbag, might fix that.

    a few loose threads

but it has the hard inserts on it and it looks and feels like a top box..
has lots of usefull pockets in it and a built in rain cover..

Cant wait to try it out on the open road

and SMEE remember the spud :)

I have an Rjays jacket (jet stream i think it is) and had the same problem
with one of the front pocket zips. But then i also have an Rjays wet weather
jacket and never had any problems with it.

Anyway, i have also been looking at luggage recently and had been planning
on buying a hard box, but my ventura style rack decided to break the other
day so now ive decided ill go for a magnetic tank bag. Does anyone have an
opinion on the Dririder City tank bag?

    its this one:

I also got a dri rider outrun tank bag when i brought my rack bag, it was
114 bucks, only a few bucks more than the city one and its much bigger, you
can take the top off, and not expand it, thats why i went for the outrun...

I forced the zipper off the bag, and zipped it back together and the zipper
seems to have fixed it self now..

ive had a rjays viking jacket, gloves, pants for a few years now and they
have been pretty good through out that...

    outrun...

Hmmm, i think the outrun is probably a bit too big for my needs, which is
mostly just carrying a few things to work like a hat and maybe my wet
weather pants if it looks like raining (since my rack broke ive just been
stuffing things down the front of my jacket lol).

Plus i like the idea of being able to unzip the bag off the magnetic base
and take it with me, I dont know if that is a feature common to all of the
    dririder tank bags though.

Does anyone know if this bag has any carry handles for when you take it with
you. You cant really tell from the pictures ive been looking at.

    Hi Steve

I bought the City bag about 6 mths ago for $120 (not much price competition
    in Cairns....).

Yes it has a sturdy carry handle at the top, and a shoulder strap that snaps
on and off. The build quality seems to be of a high nature and also comes
    with a plastic bag cover.

I like the bag, a lot. If I were to fault it, then:
    - it doesnt have back pack straps for the main bag unlike some other bags,
an accessory Im sure I would use, which would beat carrying over the
    shoulder or by hand.
    - as with all tank bags (from what I understand), ensure you put a cloth on
the tank before you put the bag down, otherwise it will scratch over time.
I use some tshirt material. Obviously this also depends on the shape of
    your tank.

Otherwise go for it. You're right, it's a really good sized back that you
can expand for a helmet if neccessary, but otherwise just include your needs
for a day of riding. I quite regularly pack mine with sneakers, towel and
bather and squirt up to one of the beaut beaches on the way to Port Douglas,
and I fairly easily fit those contents in without expaning.

Email me if you want more info.

    Thanks a lot Sean.

In a way im happy my ventura rack broke because i think that an easily
removeable tank bag would actually suite me better than a fixed hard box
because sometimes i just go for a ride around Taree for no particular reason
and have no need to carry anything with me, and also the bag's $100 cheaper
than the fairly cheap and nasty box i was going to buy.

Spot on, tank bags give you complete flexibility, are no fuss and dont have
to affect the aesthetics of the bike, unlike some ventura setups etc, which
obiously still have their place, but not a personal preference of mine.

Depends on your usual needs. I love lockable waterproof[1] storage so I
can keep wets and street directory and first aid kit and spare clutch
cable and other odds and sods and drop in to pick up groceries. Top
boxes are wonderful if you are a commuter and bike-used-for-everything
    type.

Tankbags are good when you want a quick and easy bit of storage that you
    carry with you.

So naturally I have both! Although I don't use the bagster all the
time, as I don't want to have to carry it with me. I suppose I could
    rig a security chain...

    Zebee

[1] as mine's a 40yo Craven pannier it's not as waterproof as it might
    be.

Yes 92/3-98, Also old bar public for a few years before that. And no im not
baylis :-( still got plenty o family and visit their...

Ive always liked the dri rider luggage, its well built and practical with
lots of little pockets. my el cheepo 2 teir tank bag i was using before that
was quight basic, although offers the same amount of storage..

Most dri riders, have lots of straps, handles etc for it.

One thing i use is a cheep 2 buck non slip mat you can get at teh bargain
shops as placemats etc. very stylish and hold it on rock tight and protect
    the tank from scratches..

you can get a roll of the stuff and cut it to suit..

    Cheers..

  14. Bullshit--I still can't touch my toes,and I've got five tankbags...
(or it might actually be six---I'll go back to my bike shop and get them to
    count them for me...)

  15. The one I had did have carrying handles, and in the package was straps
so you could use it as a backpack. Mine was the kind in two sections,
one that zipped off and became the backpack. There are lots of different
models, but they should all have handles.

i went out for a test run on mine, after i fixed the zipper and loose
    threads..

i found that the clips at the bottom, although my ventura bag didnt have any
sort so i tied it on. they are not adjustable, so at theretically 180kph the
bag lifted it self upwards about 8cm of slack that was in them, luckely they
are their mind you, otherwise the bag would have blown off.. have to make
some kinda of adjustment in the cords..

although the bag is also fairly un aero dynamic also... but neither are
    humans...

my throttle rocker felt weird i must say... and im getting use to poping
small wheelies with on and off throttle in low geras..

I founds this post on Google I need to warn others the Danger of the Huge Expanding Rjays Pack. What a Great Bike Pack. Looks great too. BUT. Remember it hangs off the back of your bike. Heavy gets dangerous. Instability of your steering. In a Gust of wind . Etc. My situation was the pack stitching split down one side and the whole pack came loose off the pack rack. Fell off the bike at 70kms. Was held on by the clips at the bottom but when it split I lost control of my bike going round a bend lucky it wasnt a Fatality. I broke my Arm the bike suffered some panel damage. It took me a few years to realise why I lost control on that beautiful day. Thought it might have been poor tyre pressure... but it dawned on me when I was looking at an old photo and remembered the Split Pack.... The Manufacturers need to create a Belt across the front of the Pack that stops this from happening so easy. Don't just warn of Overloading. I also turn the pack so it sits on the Pillion seat in reverse. Still love the Pack it's a Beauty. Yes I did replace the Rjays pack with the same type and gave learned my lesson. But some blokes may not even get a chance to live thru it.
