Rivet vs. Split master links

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Masospaghetti, Apr 11, 2006.

  1. I don't have a riveting tool so I would much prefer a split link. How
much better are the rivet links, for a 750cc bike?

    Thanks

Just degrease the side plate with a little alcohol or gasoline,
degrease the clip and put a drop of red Loctite on it and install it in
the right direction. It will never come off until you want to take it
    off to replace the chain.

  4. Ok, great. Just didn't want my chain flying off at 80 mph because I went
    with a split clip.

    Thanks all!

  5. Modern split link chains have tapered pins for the sideplate. You have
to force the thing on with a G-clamp or similar before you can get the
    clip on.

In my experience of the things, that link is secure. Very.

  6. In my experience of the things if your service shop puts the clip
on the inside of the chain, so that you think you have a rivetted chain and
(mis)treat it accordingly, very sparky things can happen at 80 mph on a
German Autobahn on a Sunday night...

    Klipsen? Nein danke!

I only spotted it when I posted the pics to (uk?)rm. "Why didn't
