Of course I saw your deliberate use of it!
    That they're correct?

Whatever a Latin word does or doesn't is an irrelevance; we were
discussing the use in English, not Latin. In English Fora *is* a
    valid plural of Forum.

I don't wish to appear contentious or anything but shouldn't that be
'..fora are a valid..'. Just asking like.

Quite possibly. It looks right sometimes but wrong on others. On
reflection I think 'is' is korrect. Maybe the French Professor could
    give a ruling?

No, because we are talking about the word itself rather than what it

"The plural of bum is ba" is syntactically correct.

I am not sure korrect is correct. I think the English language is
having what I think they refer to these days as a 'moment of duality' or
    some such pretentious rubbish.

Yes but would you accept it?

    steve auvache, Dec 23, 2003
  13. Now that's just a load of ba's.

My first Latin teacher was like that[1], but the one who took me through
to passing my exams was more interested in teaching us some of the
    culture of the Roman Empire.

    Particularly orgies!

[1] Old feller with more hair on the back of his hands than on top of
his head who, if you made a mistake, would make you start all over again
and emphasise each word by pinching the skin on the back of your hand[2]
[2] I'll bet that he was made a cuckold by his wife and he took it out
    on us.
