In the trade over here, everyone refers to them as the F4

By 'over here' I presume that you mean Bedfordshire? ;-)

    Too many Yanks in Bedfordshire.

Have a look/go on mine. You'll see how they stand up to all-year round
riding and 30,000 miles. I was thinking about recommending one but
hesitated. It's pretty good at the 0-60 dash, but going much into eek
territory and you'd be better looking for something with more poke.

For 3.5k I'd try to get a 2nd hand SV (roughly 2.5k), get a scottoiler,
hugger, braided brake lines and revalve the forks. If there's any money
    left over drool at jhsracing.co.uk.

Well, 8/10 isn't bad, is it?
    VFR750 - or another CBR6.

accherly the F2 is FM to FR, F3 is FS to FW, F4 is FX/FY

I had an 1999 FX and it was definitely the same spec as a yank F4

Your trade friends calling the CBR600Fi bike an F4 are contracting the yank
    F4i designation.

Style, panache, and leathers that don't clash with every motorcycle
    manufactured since 1920.

   )

What is the difference between a FR and FS, apart from paintwork and
minor bodywork changes? None that I know of.

"However, at first glance the updated F-S model is almost identical to
the model it replaces. But don’t judge a book by the cover, because
under the skin there are myriad changes. A ram air system now feeds the
larger 36mm carburettors and the compression ratio gets a hike to 12:1
(up from 11.6:1). These changes combine to move power around the already
    flexible motor."

Not to mention a change in insurance group (based upon Honda cover
    mis-identifying my bike as a CBR600FS).

You should get TOG to flog it on eBay for you for a ridiculously high sum.

  12. I remember Dan Nitschke, of fond memory, owning one of them. He rated it
highly. Somehow it never attracted many buyers, though.

It's been a good seller for BMW apparently and there are a good few around
2nd hand. Most of them are tangerine coloured unfortunately but the black
ones are nice. The new blue and white boxer Cup jobs are utterly gorgeous
    http://cannon-bmw.co.uk/cannon/New_Bikes/R100S BOXER CUP/020920_bmw_Boxe
rCupReplica%20lge.jpg . From the near side the rear end is even nicer than a
    996 IMHO.

I borrowed one from Williams in Manchester and the first thing I discovered
(once the tyres were warm) is the combination of latest model ABS and the
sports suspended tele-lever will whack your eyeballs off the inside of your
    visor.

I'm of the opinion that any bike will last as well as a Honda, if you
look after it properly. My Kawasakis do, and Yamahas did as well.
