Right, who wants to thrash their classic bike round Paul Ricard?

Discussion in 'Classic Motorbikes' started by The Older Gentleman, Jan 24, 2011.

  1. Because it's available for that, with a big meet on 24-25 April.

Open to bikes built 1969-1985, and costs 275 euros for two days (Easter
Sunday and Monday) or 160 euros for your choice of a single day.

Two 20-minute sessions per day. Special dinner included.

I'm up for this, riding the Honda 400 Four down there. Anyone else?
Because I'll DFV the hotels there and back. Remember this is the
mega-Bank Holiday year, and you won't need to take much time off work.

Plan: leave Friday 22 April. Hotel overnight. Arrive Saturday, camp, get
pissed, do the sessions, leave Monday, hotel Monday night on the way
    back, arrive home Tuesday.

Sounds great. Track time is a bit pricey, mind - and I don't have
anything old enough in my garage.

    Argh.
The Honda is probably reliable enough to do this but I think I've
exhausted my free pass quota for a bit.
I might also be a bit poor by then as well.

Still ... a CBX *is* a classic, innit.

I've got an '85 Dnepr+sidecar and no racing experience.
My top racing speed is about 48 mph, so to win I would have to
depend on all the other competitors falling asleep as in
Aesop's "The Tortoise and the Hare".

I was thining I could take the missus aong and do a double, as it were,
but I don't think she'll want to go back to Paul Ricard.

    Tempted.
Ah, Easter school holidays innit. I'll already be at 'the chateau' and
due to head home to get the lad back for school. On checking, however, I
see he doesn't need to be back until the Wednesday. Hmm, a plan
involving a trailer may form and a sortie from 'the chateau' by Morini,
though it's still too tight to stay until the Monday unless I do back to
blighty in one hit, which is a pain towing a trailer (mainly the UK
    leg).

    <Checks Google maps>

About 700 Kms, but by some very interesting roads to start with at least
through the massif centrale. Approximately where would you plan your
overnight stop? It might make more sense for me to join you there. Or I
might camp halfway between Peyrat and Paul Ricard.

    Very, very tempted.

I keep meaning to do the Trofeo Rosso again.

23/24 is also the BOFSM weekend, & the start of BRC's 'bike week'.
Which could work out well for people not in a hurry to get home.

Heh I forgot the BOFSM do. I thought I would have to be home by then,
but hadn't factored in the bank holiday Monday and an inset day at the
lad's school, so I could do Saturday/Sunday at Rocamadour. I'm now
seriously contemplating taking the trailer, just got to make my mind up
whether to load on the Shiver or the Morini. Could be some good hooning
round the Limousin to be enjoyed leading up to the weekend. So on
balance, if nobody else is up for Paul Ricard it will be the Aprilia
that gets a lazy trip to France followed quickly by having to do it
    under its own steam.

When I read n posts in UKRM, sometimes when I reconnect, the same posts
    are 'undead'?

Three posts today, read in this group, dead in this group, resurrect
themselves when I connect a couple of hours later.

It only happens in UKRM, and only sometimes. Surely Infernal-September
    isn't picking on us?

User error, I suspect, which would also be to blame for this post
appearing three levels down the "Right, who wants to thrash their
classic bike round Paul Ricard?" thread.
Most likely you're not closing your newsreader down peroperly so it
    loses track, or something.
No, I think it's just you.

That's easily explained - I changed the subject field in what was going
to be a reply - that's normal behaviour for Thunderguts.
Nope. I usually read UKRM first, unless there's something in
sci.techniques.microscopy, and last of all the Shed. It only happens in
    this group.

Closing down the newsgroup is done before turning-off the flaptop.
Whereas, I don't. I have been using newsgropes since Mosaic was *the*
    browser...

Sure- but why reply to an existing thread with a different topic? Sort of
defeats the whole purpose of threading (not that with rampant topic drift
there's much difference). Start a new thread instead so your post doesn't
have a References: line which is going to confuse folks into thinking you
want to reply to an existing thread rather than start a new one.

Exit Thunderbird and go into your news directory and delete the
    uk.rec.motorcycles.classic.msf file.

e.g. (change the applicable directory names per your installation & news
    server):

    olsonm@atom:~$ cd .mozilla-thunderbird/vm229av6.default/News/news.visi.com/
    olsonm@atom:~/.mozilla-thunderbird/vm229av6.default/News/news.visi.com$ rm uk.rec.motorcycles.classic.msf
