In my younger years I wanted to do that with an Escort Cosworth.
Basically take the shell off an Escort 1.1 Popular and bung it on top
of a Cosworth. Replace the alloys with normal steel wheels and then
    have fun with Novaboyz.

I never had those kind of urges when I was young, but I do now :-/ A
5.0L V8 Ford-engined MX5 is top of my list - with nitrous, natch.

I'm sure we've done this before, but yep - http://v8miata.com/

I really can't think of any car that would be as much fun[1] while
remaining practical as a daily driver.

[1] My definition of fun being small, light, convertible & rear wheel
    drive.

  7. She *is* from Plymouth. So all things are possible. Some are less
    likely though.

Mind you - she has excellent taste in spouses.

Well that & the fact Timo's had one...
I'm not sure. I prefer the MkI anyway - they softened it up a bit after
that. And I'm a sucker for popup headlights :)

Phil Launchbury emerged from their own little world to say
IIRC there was a green Minor window cleaner's van featured in a number of
magazines some time ago. He'd put in a tuned Lancia engine. Quicker 0-60
    than the then Porsce 911.

Nice choice of power plant - lovely compact two-litre, the Lancia. I
used to use the Alfa version, which went into several MKI Escorts, a
    Herald, a Humber Sceptre, a TR7 ...
There were always plenty available, and they were easy to extract from
the donor cars as the SOItalian bodywork fell off automatically.

On Moggies, an old mate from Hull had 15 minutes of fame with an
ex-GPO van which he had done the works to - Daimler (2.5?)V8 (much
shinier than the Rover), heavily narrowed Jag IRS, 'flake paintjob et
    al.
    "Minor Illusion", he called it.

And then there was Nicky Mann, of course ;-)

Whinging Courier will love the 6th down ...

You're a lucky man. Does she have an accent?

Sounds like my mate Dave's C reg Hillman Super Minx Estate - with a
    302cu V8 under the bonnet.

Floor it from the lights, and all it would do was disappear in a cloud
    of tyre smoke.

  16. Wasn't the Cologne an ally engine then? My memory is fucked, but I
thought it was (maybe just ally timing case and heads).

I used to run a factory building the fecking things and I can't damn
well remember... Best go to the pub until I get my memory back.

  17. I think they were upping the power by the end of the run - but it was
only the Range Rover engine with HC heads on. My 3.9 is only 185bhp
(in standard trim) and that's a 1993 engine with EFI and electronic
gizmotronics. The carbed 3.5's were gutless wonders.

  18. Heh... It was free and had a towbar, I had a bike trailer and a fucked
S2 in some old biddy's front garden in Worcestrshire. It lasted just
long enough to collect the bike from where I'd dumped it when it died,
and then a couple of trips into Brighton to pick up the bits to mend
    the bike.

Then the old bill started taking an interest in the parking tickets and
tax, and the bloke that gave me the car was threatening to grass me up
unless I registered it in my own name... It had to go.

Up to 190bhp, depends on the model

  20. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
The Scim should have had the Rover V8 fitted from about 75 on, but
Leyland were being cunts, as usual, and wouldn't supply them to Reliant.

Reliant made a prototype with a Ford small block V8, but it came to
nought. That car's still kicking around somewhere.

The Essex, while a lardy old lump, can produce a reliable 200bhp with
some port cleaning and 250-odd with some more serious work; but it's
sticking a negligee on a pig, imo.

I'm definitely going the rotary route.... more power, half the weight,
once the gearbox is ally cased too.
