on the freeway, what a boring sh***y ride! my girlfriend talked me
into riding down last week to spend a week with her while she is there,
and man was my butt sore by the time i got there. I took hours on the
way down and promised myself id take the coast road back up over two
days... but sure enough she talks me in to staying that extra day so
i have to do it all in one go. 10 1/2 hours back up, and changed tires
for 3 damsels in distress too! I pulled over to change the first one,
she didnt have a tire iron, lucky enough i usually carry a good
selection of tools, when a guy went screaming past me on a ninja.
change tire, off i go again, about 100km later he's pulled over helping
someone. 200kms later again he passes me while im changing the second
tire. we kept leap frogging all the way up to syd that way, though i
never did get to stop and say hi.

Is the coast road any better? Thank schmuck i had my MP3 player with
ear-plug headphones... these things are great, buy a pair if you ride.
They block out all the wind and engine noise so you can hear the
    music. kept me sane

Much less boring, but numerous times as many cops and 60 zones.

There's even better ways *through* the mountains if you don't mind
spending two days doing it. Just look for the twisty bits.

Yah.. pretty much... I went between sydney and melbourne 4 times on the
    bike last year.

I strongly suggest investing in a sheep skin for the bike... it'll keep
most of the numb bumb away.

And it's much less painful on something that isn't super sporty.

that ride is just so boring and with so many boys in blue on the road you
have to keep your eyes on your speedo

The Coast Road can be done in one day and isnt that bad

btw: some details on the ear-plug phones would be nice

haha... the ones i got, dont know if they are available in aus or not,
from a company called 'koss', i bought them overseas for about $20.
Ive been looking at these other things that are similar but cost about
$300 by a company with a weird name like 'etymology' or something they
are supposed to be the last thing in earpods, but too many dollars for
me to take a chance right now. The ones i got work better if you grab
standard earplugs and melt a hole in them to replace the hard rubber
plugs they came with. work well sound good for the money and more
importantly you can actually *hear* the music. they dont completely
remove noise (which is probably good), but with full volume at highway
speeds i can hear the music clear with good detail and understand
lyrics while the wind etc is kept to a minimum. at 60 cruising around
town they are really awesome. I use mine almost every day
