My licence can't be returned from the DVLA (address change) in time
for a trip to France next week.

I have the correct licence, insurance etc but anyone know what action
the French police would take if I was stopped and couldn't produce my
    driving licence?

    Tar.

Make up your mind - you said it was your wife over on rsre.
You could be nicked for it - not sure what the fine would be.

Yeah, well. He's Roger - and so is his wife.

Well indeed - less explanation required this way!

  5. I can't see them being wildly bothered unless you were severely pissed
    or something.

I've had to produce my licence three times in France in the last, er,
um, 25 years. Twice for speeding (let off once, on the spot fine the
other time) and once on a Ukrm French Run when Frog Plod decided to
investigate this line of Brits on bikes...

    dixit Roger:
they give you a 5 day producer. they can also fine you 20 euros on the
spot if they want for not having all the correct wotsits and wasting
    everyone's time.

Probably 20 EUR when they see the British plates ;-)

They send a crack team of smellies to hunt you down in your home country.
When they find you they strip you naked, tie you up, then rub garlic and
onion all over your body before untying you and supergluing you into a blue
and white striped jersey and a stupid beret. Finally they nail you to a
bicycle and send you packing down your local High Street.

Some people'd pay good money for that you know.

bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the lines
    of:

It's a bit like bikers with French registered plates that crash on UK
roads. (Admittedly, it's not their fault at all). They ignore
producers and Plod in the UK will do bugger all.

They won't bother their arses. If you subsequently get pulled riding the
same vehicle, it might 'flag' on their computers, but other than that, I
    wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I won't as I haven't (yet) been stopped in France.

What happens if you can't pay the on-the-spot fine they give you for other
    offences?
