I have a budget of about £340 for some new riding gear. I need boots,
jacket & trousers (my old Arai Quantum E & gloves are still ok). I am
probably going for Alpinestars S-MX 3 boots for £120 new (though may try
Sidi Vertigos) so that leaves me with £220 for a jacket & trousers. I won't
be riding in the rain so waterproof-ness isn't a major concern. Saftey &
    comfort are the main priorities.

    Any suggestions?

Get yourself along to your closest Hein Gericke.
Note that www.hein-gericke.com is 'under construction' ATM.

Heavy, waterproof, thermal, armoured Cordura for winter. Light,
    armoured leather for summer.

    No fucking argument.

For that money, I'd desriously consider not buying leathers and get
Interesting that you mentioned those - I was just looking at the very same
ones on Infinity's site. Time for a trip to el shoppe me thinks.

    Cheers

I have these. They squeak like a very squeaky thing when you walk.
    Fucking annoying that.

Ok otherwise? I tried a pair on and they felt comfy. I've yet to try the
Sidis but I've heard they are quite a narrow fit. My plates are quite wide
so I doubt I'd get on too well with them.

Another thing I don't like is all the exposed velcro shredded the liner
on my HG Cargo pants. Otherwise they are okay.

Sidi couriers are good too, in a plain black, lower, 3 buckle way.

  10. Great - I'll see if I still have the article when I get home Friday, and
    scan it for you.

As for you, if you were to go this route, it could give you time to save
up for a decent set of leathers - although I've never quite got round to
    it yet.

Not sure whether the textiles might be a bit too hot in summer (hah!)
but if they are - ride faster.

My HG stuff keeps me nice and toasty warm from early autumn to late
spring. Between these times is can get kin hot in slow traffic even
    with the liner taken out.

Thanks very much - that'd be great!
Yep, I think that's the way I'm going to go. It'll prolly take me forever
to save for the leathers too (may need to sell my model helicopter to
    finance them!)
"But officer, if I'd stuck to the speed limit, I'd have suffered from heat
exhaustion" Hmmm I gather these are pretty good at keeping ya warm then. I
think I'll take a trip to Infinity on Saturday - there's one about 12 miles
    from me.

Revi'tt stuff seems OK. I got some last year for the winter, although it
does have removeable linings, and have to say it's very impressive. It'd
    just about do your budget.

Not necesseraly, bought a very nice pair of Spada (waterproof) trousers for
60 quid. Now may be the time to get gear like that, what with the summer
    coming an' all.

True, I used it merely as an example, old sport :)

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Weise Fusion jacket? It was originally
£139.99, now being sold on ebay for £50 or so. Obviously closeout stock but
hell, I just bought an SV K3!

  17. I've come to this thread rather late, but I agree with what Bear said
earlier concerning the level of budget. Since the CE marked "Moto Q"
range of the mid 1990s is no longer available, £220 isn't going to buy
into the premium brand sector. The best to be hoped for is that it will
buy cut-price versions of last season's colours or a discontinued
    model.

Some budget stuff appears to be manufactured from sturdy leather, but
the thread specification often provides me with cause for concern. Some
of the thread used would scarcely hold together the flimsiest Ann
Summers lingerie (although perhaps it is not meant to ;-) ), let alone
stop a motorcycle garment from reverting to its component parts in a
    slide along the tarmac.

When I am visiting factories in the Far East, and talk to them about
why it is important to put motorcyclists' clothing together with care,
using robust materials; the way in which the light of realisation
starts in their eyes and then brightens up their entire face, never
ceases to amaze me. It is common sense for those of us who use the kit,
but my experiences raise the question: why haven't all the clothing
distributors, who have been purchasing from these Far Eastern factories
for years, already informed their suppliers about this?

    £220 budget? "Caveat Emptor".
