I'm with Western QBE and while I am happy enough with them, one irksome
point is that riding gear is not covered by the insurance. My GPS is
covered on my housing contents insurance (specifically listed) and I never
thought to ask about M/C riding gear until I read this thread on UKGSer

    http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24849

Has anyone had any expereinces in Aus with riding gear on home and contents
insurance or with a motorcycle insurance company that does cover riding
    gear ?

I have a Tiger Angel riding suit coming, that and a helmet are $2K alone.

  3. The seemingly big three for bikes here are Swan, WesternQBE and NRMA
(amazingly - they've gone cheap since last time I looked)

Just a phone call would tell you the cover, NRMA offer up to $400 odd for
helmet cover by paying an extra $30 a year I think.

    hope that helps

Western QBE don't cover riding gear unless you can get them to class it as
    an accessory.

Buy a premium household contents policy (not a defined events - go for the
top one) and keep receipts for your gear or a record of when & where you
bought it, and you're covered. Don't make the mistake of setting your
amount covered too low - you want to be insuring all your contents etc at a
reasonable replacement cost. It's much cheaper than tacking bits onto your
    bike cover.

If you have a claim, get your bike shop to quote you the list price for any
replacements. A lot of your stuff will be superseded. Make sure the quote
for the replacement stuff is at least the same quality as the stuff
    lost/damaged.

After the insurer pays you, start negotiating discounts on the replacement
    gear.

Western QBE, whom I am with specifically told me they did not. I would
have prefered to stay with them, $16K in repairs in ywo years and they
    haven't batted an eyelid.
