Yesterday afternoon, south-bound on San Felipe Rd. about a mile north of
Metcalf, I came across Dat Tran who was laying in the ditch behind his
totaled Suzuki and the car he impaled himself on. As hard as he tried he was
unable to enter the Toyota via the windshield.

I sincerely hope Dat is not paralyzed or worse, as I was unfortunately too
late to keep his riding bro's from removing the helmet he used to shatter
    the windshield with.

Dat was breathing but semi-conscious, fading in and out. My cell phone was
not getting a good signal in the canyon, so a 911 call was not able to be
completed. Another rider had to go back down the canyon to make the call.

What a shame to waste a fine machine on a beautiful Sunday afternoon jaunt
for nothing more than ego or a rush.

Dat, I sympathize with your family who will be burdened with your recovery,
and your bro's who witnessed your stunt and will have to live with that
memory etched in front of them on every turn.

My sympathies also to the elderly gentleman, who was minding his own
business on his side of the road. I'm sure he will re-live Sunday afternoon
every time he comes around that corner. I hope he has better luck with his
    next car.

No thanks Dat for increasing my insurance rates, and fucking up my Sunday
afternoon ride. I hope your injuries are not severe and you learn a lesson
other than that you dodged another bullet. You are not bullet-proof and the
consequences of your actions affect lives other than your own.

To all who read this and feel what I felt as I come up on this tragic rides
end, remember it the next time you wick it up on a 30 mph road. Running wide
on blind corners is a fatal risk that is never worth the rush of surviving,
and definitely carries a price tag no one can afford for showing off with
    your bro's.

Coming back from Calistoga yesterday on the Silverado Trail I saw a Harley
rider down beside the road. Lots of Ambulances and a fire truck. The guy had
run wide on the corner and struck a phone pole, breaking the pole. Must have
hit VERY hard. Every time I see another biker, I say a little prayer that
they are riding well and safely.
    Be safe out there, OK?
