Prawn, are we still on for Saturday morning?

It's just that I used to get lost on the way to the car wash back in
    the day.

Oh, and is anyone else popping along from this side of Europe?

    Oh well.

I'm sure I'll manage on my own.

If you can make it round the south side of the M25 to Maidenhead,
and don't mind risking your licence every inch of the way to
The Frozen North, you're welcome to tag along with me and the pinko.

He's just passed his DAS hasn't he... (without trying to offend but probably
going to) IMO I suspect trying to keep up with Sweller and you on anything
vaguely resembling a twisty road (which I believe is your plan) could end up
    in tears....

But WTF do I know really :)

It's not the bike - it's the rider. I recall passing my DAS all of 3 years
ago and the road riding skills and anticipation were most certainly not
there - if you recall I threw my bike down the road shortly afterwards
    thorugh inexperience.

It's vaguely arrogant of me to assume Nick could do the same, but I just
think you have a lot more experience plus training and therefore even on a
slower bike you're likely to be happier pushing that little bit harder.

    Flip wibble do.

    Heh, thanks ;-)
    Oh, the bike's quick enough, but I don't fancy a 12R against a 7R in
    the twisties.

And as for what Sweller will turn up on ... !

    Cheers,

    Paul.

I passed a month ago today, but I didn't do DAS... I've got a limited
ER-5, it maxes out at around 100mph on the flat, or a bit higher
    downhill.

I don't want to be holding anyone up.

I've got through some of the inexperience, but I'm sure there's plenty
of it left though. I've managed to drop the bike once (bugger) but I
haven't managed to throw it. Yet.

You won't. If they bugger off, and you feel that the pace is a little
too hot - let them go.

This is very important if you don't want to be making Nick-shaped
    holes in hedges.

If they spot that you've dropped back, they'll wait, probably.

This will not happen at every bend in the road, though, so a little
clue as to where you're going would be helpful.

    The important thing here is:

    Ride your own ride.

Oh shut up you slow fucker :)

BTW, I agree. Your pace is more than enough after a French run debauch.

The thing is, and I don't understand it either, it doesn't matter how
slow I feel, I never arrive *that* much after anyone else, anyway.

    Thanks.

    I think I'll take my planned route (M20, M25, M1...) - I'll be setting
off before 9am and will be taking about four stops along the way -
plus all the time to find where TF I am when I get lost, so I should
    get there about 1-2pm.

My normal motorway speeds in a car are: When it stops going faster and
the same is true on my bike, however, as the plod will be around I
probably won't be going more than about 75-80mph on unfamiliar
motorways, plus the bike will have the heaviest load I've ever put on
it, and I want most/all of it to arrive in Derbyshire with me, so I
    may average about 70.

I've loaded my tank bag up... Not having *oSM'd before I'm not sure
exactly what I need to bring. Will going around in my motorbike boots
be fine, or should I bring my DMs for the rest of the time? It's just
I'll save so much weight/space by leaving the DMs at home. :)

Don't forget your black tie for dinner :)

But seriously, I don't think you'll be underdressed in bike boots in
    this company.

The first rule of Making Progress is to /make progress/. Back in 2000, for
instance, when I was running-in the Drifter, I had a top speed of 60, and
was bimbling down the back roads an getting rained on in Abbeville. I
wasn't tear-arseing it down the autoroute at 170mph, but then nor was I
having mob-handed half-hour fuel and cigarette stops, getting lost, running
out of petrol etc. And so I arrived at the hotel at pretty well the same
    time as everyone else.

I'll leave the DMs behind then, I don't fancy the tank bag being too
    heavy.

I'll be setting off in an hour or so. See you all there.
