    1. Fit some loud horns and don't be afraid to use them.
    2. Be a bit more assertive on the road.

I wasn't seeking your sympathy, Paul and everyone else who has seen
fit to attack me today. But I do feel I've been misrepresented by
many of you as The Bad Guy. It's not just me that needs to get a
    grip.

MTAAW, and I drive a cage. Mind you, I did once manage to get one twonk
stopped by Plod, to my great joy. Two insane loonies in a black Merc,
playing silly buggers on the M1. I kept out of their way, but they were
basically playing Dare by pulling in front of people in every lane and
stopping. Hard. Just so happened I knew the phone number for the M1 Plod
at Hemel. To my great joy, as I got a mile or two down the M1, Plod had
    nicked them. Sweet.

The one that DID pee me off was the HGV driver going through the Dartford
Tunnel. I was in the inside lane, doing a smidgen over the limit, heavy
traffic, and it's marked as double white lines, so I can't go faster or
anyplace else. Plonker decided he's going to sit on my tail and let off the
air horn. For no reason at all. All the way through the damn tunnel. Once
we got through, I got his plate and company phone number and called them.
Got a very apologetic letter from MD saying that driver had been a "bit
under pressure" due to being stuck in heavy traffic on the southern stretch
    of the M2. <snort>

  4. nobody has attacked you, FFS, get a grip.
    No-one has done this either.

May I politely suggest that you retire from the keyboard before you
    commit hari-kari in error.

I've just had a fag out the window <sigh> and contemplated the events
of the day and in this thread and have decided that you are indeed
    correct.

These narratives are seriously useful (to me).
This is now experience shared and tho' I've not had anything
quite so extreme happen to me,

I'm wiser for having read this thread.
There will be more and I'll read them too, I'm learning to be
    fatalistic (what?).

Don't bother filtering and the like unless you're going to get something
out of it. Risking winding people up to get an extra 10m isn't worth the
hastle, so just sit there for a while unless there's lots of traffic -
lots of potential to make progress - or empty space ahead where you can
    **** off.

If you do manage to piss somoeone off, either **** off into the distance
or pull up safely somewhere and wait to see what they'll do. Most of them
won't stop: the whole basis of their outrage is that they think that
you've slowed them down in some way.

All this talk about "it happens to everybody" is nonsense, IME. I've
crashed bikes through my own incompetence and once through somebody else's
but I've not had any serious problems with road rage. I can only think of
two instances (ever) which warrented more than a second or two of my
attention. One in Cheltenham several years back where a car pursued me for
a few hundred yards after trying to change lanes into me. But I suspect
the changing of lanes was a matter of stupidity rather than malice, and
after he did that I put a sizeable dent in his door, so he was somewhat
justified. left him for dead at the first set of lights.

More recently in Oxford, a stupid bint crowded me at a roundabout by
cutting straight across rather than going round. I sounded my horn - but
no more than that - after which she tailgated me for a bit. When the road
opened up I maintained a moderate speed and she passed me.

In neither case did I really feel at serious risk, and was in control of
the situation after the initial event. I am a fairly phlegmatic sort,
    though, not prone to panic.

    Heh, those horns are mega-tastic.

Not all our vehicles have got them but one day when I needed to make two
kids aware of my presense, it took about 5 minutes to get the grin off
my face as I "parrrp"ed them. They shouted something unintelligable so I
retorted with "**** arf, ya bloodclart"

    ****, I laughed.

  20. use your eyes and ears booming music baseball caps means boy racers
(usually means no licence and insurance as well) keep clear
sports cars might want a race you , little old lady in an old Morris minor
dodgy eyesight no road sense , road works and delayed traffic winds every
one up get the picture .

You should be evaluating all this info on a constant cycle not just at the
lights when thinking about filtering by then its usually to late as you
found out , it does take practice , try giving yourself a running commentary
    that helps some people

get yourself booked on a bike course with the local plod
