Richard Hammond half down?

  1. Aye, but I reckon "Richard Hammond's 5 O'Clock Show" might suffer a bit.

Crikey, "Vampire" car gets TV presenter, now that's something you don't
    see everyday [1].

[1] Yeah, well you can't believe everything you read on the interweb but
there it is on Wikipedia *and* http://www.thule.co.uk/partners/blsr.asp

No one does, but Hammond seems a nice gut. He did a good program where he
    investigated sausages (BGN might remember).

Anyway, at least Hammond was/is a journalist .. He seemed/seems a good guy.

That other bloke, the pilot hippy bloke ... he'd only end up killing himself
    with boredom.

However, I'd beat him to that I guess.

It might improve though ... they might bring Trisha in ...

Anyone reckon they'll have a debate about whether the last moments should be
shown? (i.e.in the same way they had a whole page about Steve Irwin?)

A good car crash well beats a stingray in the chest, I reckon.

On R4 this morning they said that it was unclear what has caused the
accident. I suspect that the previous sentence that the newsreader
uttered, "Richard Hammond was strapped into a rocket-powered car", might
just be the vital piece of evidence that the inspectors are looking for.

I must admit that I enjoyed listening to him once. That was when he was wiping
the floor with the idiot Porritt in a debate about the environment. But that
doesn't stop him being an arse so he's in my television killfile.

  8. IMHO much easier to find someone who can act the borish bafoon than
some who can be sharp & funny - and the ladies love him.

Clarkeson's a one trick pony. Say a few affectedly controversial things
and make a few brash oversimplified statements. Tolerable in his Times
column and highly entertaining in the company of Hammond and May I'll
grant you - but not irreplaceable.

Well that's neither here nor there really as it's a car program for one
and b] he appears to have become engaged to be possibly dead. But
regardless of that, to be a successful boorish buffoon (which is what I
believe you were aiming for) probably requires more perspicacity than
you appear to understand. If he really was a mindless fool he would
have disappeared a long time ago and definitely been less influential
on TG than he is. And even the Times wouldn't include his column unless
they had some faith in him not to totally embarass the paper.

  10. Errrr, I said 'act' the borish bafoon. HTH

Clarkeson may work to a formula, but it's a formula he's worked out and
he didn't get where he is today by actually *being* the character he
portrays in print and on TV.

  13. You didn't read my first post properly, how was I to know you'd read
    the second?

Well you'd know I'd read your second because I wrote it in the first
place. I'm starting to see why you find Jezzer such hard work.

Somwhere else suggested that a tyre "blew" which surprised me as I
thought they would have been using solid wheels for these kind of
    speeds.

  17. I didn't say I found him hard work - I find him fucking entertaining
(on TG, not in the Times). I merely said that IMHO you could find
another Clarkeson figure more easily than you could find a Hammond.

  20. Hmm, this news didn't trigger my "serves the **** right" synapse like
    the croc-botherer did.

Still, those TG boys don't have a good track record regarding real
speed, e.g. Clarkson yakking his cornflakes in an F4 Phantom.
