    Hi there,

I'm trying (again) to fix up a mates '89 RGV 250 (K model, I think
    ???).

This has been something of an ongoing project, that hasn't been
touched for 18 months, possibly 2 years. Here is the history so far:

One of the valves lost a stem, the valve dropped into the piston.
Seizure! Said mate removed heads & barrels, left motor in the frame,
under a car port that leaked. Here the bike stayed, for possibly up
    to 12 months.

By the time I started work on the poor thing, the crank was rusted
    solid, none too surprising.

I replaced the crank (2nd hand), piston, rings, barrel, valves, etc...
I put the whole thing back together.

What I found was that I had good compression, but could only manage to
idle on 1 barrel, from memory the left (rear). When it was revved up,
over 6 - 6500, the valves kicked in, at which point the right (front)
barrel started firing. It almost appeared that the left barrel
    stopped firing at this point.

I suspected the carbs, since, one was full of water for so long, the
fuelways were corroded. I replaced the carb. No change. I swapped
    carbs. No change.

Next I suspected electrics. I have replaced EVERY electrical
component in the system. No change.

It was lastly suggested that there should be a gas seal between both
barrels. I tested this theory today. Poured some petrol into 1
barrel, which just flooded out of the other barrel.

I now have the engine back out, with the cases cracked. The crank has
a seal between the 2 counter weights, only, I don't see that this
could be a gas seal, since there is a SERIOUS amount of slop present.

    So, now for the questions:
    1) Should the middle seal on the crank be a tight fit?
    2) Should there be a gas seal between both barrels?
    3) Any new suggestions, because, I have exhausted all of my current
    ideas.

    All ideas appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Definitely a cam regrind required. (And a valve-lapping)
