Rev counter

    I have just recently picked up a 1990 imported
    Kawasaki zzr. The Speedo is in kph. In the lower
    centre of rev counter there is a four digit counter
    that only advances when the bike is moving. The
    thing is though, it only advances ever 3/4 of a
    kilometre and I can not work out what it is for. It
    will not reset and only goes up to 9999.
    any ideas as to what it is for.
