Rev counter phenomena

Can anyone explain this?

On my 97 speed triple, the rev counter needle tends to dart around
wildly, even when the revs are constant. I cant work out why it is
doing this, and its not a serious problem because I rarely look at it
anyway, just may be a problem when I want to sell. Anyone got any
suggestions on how to fix it?

 

What's the other problem?

 

buy a new cable.

havent got a clue. I'll check when I get home though I'm hoping SWrK
will be along shortly. I only suggested it cos when mine have been
about to break in the past its done strange things as the original
post.

Check the connectors on the #2 coil next time you're in the area.

On my bike (Yamaha Fazer) the rev counter doubles up as a fault finder. The
variations on the needle tel me about a possible fault on the bike.

May not be the same on yours but definately worth a look in the manual I
owuls have thought.

 

So how does that work then? Is it when going along or just on start up?

When it points to 11 it means the throttles jammed open.
