Retro Helmet?

  1. Yep, Agree with Doug.

Anyone that sentimentally attached with a car needs to find an alternate
newsgroup for starters. Anyone that has been in an accident that required
the 'bags to go off, was serious enough to damage the car, not to mention
the occupants. Do you really still want the same vehicle?

If you are still worried, buy a Volvo.

  4. Theo I think you are referring to active and passive safety systems.

Active: 4 wheel drive, good breaks, good chasis, strong motor, reliant
handling, good vision, good tyres, regularly maintained, clean exterior
    (helps with vision)

Passive: Airbags, crumble zones, procon ten systems (collaspable
steering columns, pedals etc), ABS, electronic stability control
(although this one is sort of active in nature), traction control (ditto)

One prevents accidents from occuring (active) the other lessons the
effect of the accident on the occupants once it occurs.

For that reason alone I subscribe to the european car camp, they handle
and brake better than most aussie cars and in most models the vision
they provide is better too. I value active safety measures over passive.
Quite frankly Id rather not have to test out all these passive systems.

'Primary' and 'Secondary' make more sense: an airbag is in no
    way 'passive'.

'Preventative' and 'Palliative' would be more accurate.

Oh, look it up. In a dictionary, not in one of your new-fangled
    Nursey-nursey pain relief books.

    Palliative \Pal"li*a*tive\, a. [Cf. F. palliatif.]
Serving to palliate; serving to extenuate or mitigate.

No, no, good breaks. By the side of the road, trying to find the
    word 'chasis' in a dictionary.

Hey, I'm not trying to sell the damn things, I'm trying to sell

No worries, so long as you supply papier-mache and gaffer tape.
(what kind of insurance pays out in slabs? Don't answer that.)
