There are two types in this world, the ignorant (me), and those who
    know (you lot).

A friend's son has an Aprilla 125 SR, he rides on a provisional
licence and is aged 17. He has been talking about it being
derestricted, a question. What and when should bikes be restricted, is
the restriction a legal requirement or one placed by insurance
    companies?

If legal, then whats the penalty.

If insurance, then is he uninsured if it's derestricted.

    cheers

On a provisional he is only allowed bikes up to 14.6hp
His insurance will also be for a restricted bike.
Driving other than in accordance with a licence , and driving without
    insurance.
Minimum of three points for each one , and that'll get him a mandatory ban.
Yes , in the same way that if you modify your car and don't disclose this
    then your insurance is invalid.

Forget the legalities. Think resale values and don't derestrict.

    This is an Aprillia RS.

If it's derestricted it will explode sooner than if it's restricted.

    Either way, it will explode.

Heh, my lad's mate bought one, newish, previous history unknown.

Fully derestricted, goes like a greased ferret.

On the road for 3 weeks, eek mph up the dual carriageway comes flying past
my lad and another mate on an RS.

Suddenly they enter a dark fog, smelling ominously of rubber.

Seems matey's RS seized solid at top speed. Luckily he didn't fall off, but
his rear tyre has a rather flat spot on it.

Today we learned that the engine parts alone are going to cost £300.00
